<p>DISTRICT OVERVIEW</p> <p>The Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) is committed to ensuring a high-quality education for all. Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) serves 5,400 students (of which over 80% are Latinx) in 13 schools and employs nearly 1,500 people. The District was placed into receivership by the State of Massachusetts in Spring 2015, because of struggling performance, and has since implemented a Turnaround Plan that has led to expanded choice programs (such as dual language, STEM, and early college) and new opportunities for students to explore the arts, sports, sciences, and local and world cultures. Since 2015, the District has experienced numerous accomplishments for instance:</p> <ul> <li>doubling access to PreK programming </li><li>10-point graduation rate increase </li><li>85 percent increase in access to early college programming </li><li>13-point increase (to 26%) teachers of color </li></ul> <p>Job description:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods that involves the Engineering Design Process. </li><li>Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning. </li><li>Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration. </li><li>Works directly with school administrators and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM initiatives and curriculum. </li><li>Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. </li><li>Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. </li><li>Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students. </li><li>Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. </li><li>Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law. </li><li>Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seeks the assistance of specialists, as needed and/or required, and makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodation within the classroom. </li><li>Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available to students and parents for education-related purposes. </li><li>Teaches students to work collaboratively to solve problems and to think logically and creatively. </li><li>Completes other duties as assigned. </li><li>Maintains a strong, regular personal attendance record. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Ability to develop Early Literacy Skills </li><li>Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students </li><li>Experience working in an urban setting, preferred </li><li>Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred </li><li>Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills </li><li>Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply </li></ul> <p>Required license(s):</p> <ul> <li>Mathematics, 5-8, General Science, 5-8 or any applicable Science license with SEI Endorsement; second licensure in ESL or Moderate Disabilities preferred. </li></ul>
