With a proud legacy in the industry, Hicks offers a fast-paced, friendly environment where customers and team members alike love to grow.</p> <p>Objective:</p> <p>Manage the operations of the retail store areas related to outdoor green goods, and related seasonal products, and to ensure customer satisfaction and profitable sales growth.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Build, lead, and develop a team of quality people.</p> <p>o Orient and train new staff members. Conduct performance, compensation, and other relevant evaluations.</p> <p>Develop and monitor financial plans and outcomes related to all departmental needs.</p> <p>o Develop and monitor labor and supplies budgets.</p> <p>o Analyze, review, and report on financial results against plans.</p> <p>Act as the Manager on Duty as directed by the Retail General Manager, following established processes and procedures</p> <p>o Open and close the store</p> <p>o Ensure staff is working with daily objectives outlined by their direct manager</p> <p>o Ensure store standards are met, and processes are being followed as developed by the Retail General Manager</p> <p>Oversee the merchandising and sales of retail green goods including trees, shrubs, perennials, and Christmas greens, as well as related seasonal products.</p> <p>o Develop the sales skills of the sales staff.</p> <p>o Ensure that systems and processes related to merchandising and sales are followed.</p> <p>Oversee the planning, merchandising, and maintenance of all Nursery areas.</p> <p>o Work with the Visual Merchandising team to ensure that seasonal store setups and transitions are planned and executed efficiently and smoothly.</p> <p>o Develop and monitor replenishment systems.</p> <p>Oversee plant maintenance.</p> <p>o Develop and document plant maintenance systems.</p> <p>o Follow up on maintenance issues and make necessary adjustments.</p> <p>Be the primary liaison with the buying team on Nursery categories.</p> <p>o Provide input in merchandise planning.</p> <p>o Communicate with the buying team regarding sales, displays, sign needs, and merchandise levels.</p> <p>Participate in sales and product knowledge training.</p> <p>o Provide/conduct training sessions as required.</p> <p>o Attend offsite seminars and training opportunities as required.</p> <ul> <li>5 years of experience managing sales and related operational functions and processes at a retail establishment </li><li>5 years of experience managing people in a retail environment </li><li>Associates degree or equivalent </li><li>Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products </li><li>Ability to learn computer systems that are new to you </li><li>Attention to detail </li><li>Able to juggle multiple tasks </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively in English - reading, orally, and in writing </li><li>Ability to operate a forklift, skid steer, and other equipment safely and effectively (will be certified on Hicks equipment) </li></ul> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent </li><li>Ornamental horticultural knowledge </li><li>5 years' experience in the garden center industry </li><li></li></ul>
