<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Title: ELL Placement/Double Check Specialist</p> <p>Unit: Part-Time MCCC Professional Staff</p> <p>Department: Liberal Arts Division, English Department</p> <p>Reports to: Dean of Liberal Arts</p> <p>Date: May 29, 2025</p> <p>General Summary: The part-time ELL (English Learning Institute) Placement/Double Check Specialist within the English Department will provide administrative support for the "Double Check" policy, as well as perform intake for all incoming ELL students and direct them to their proper placement in MCC's English Learning Institute, Intensive English Institute, Adult Learning Center, or academic ELL courses.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee and administer the English Dept's "Double Check" process for native and non-native speakers </li><li>Create and maintain the schedule of all participating English faculty on an availability spreadsheet </li><li>Schedule all student appointments within 24 hours of requests </li><li>Meet with students who need further assistance with the process </li><li>Track all sessions for assessment and payment purposes </li><li>Check Double Check inbox daily for new student requests using CRM form </li><li>Work with Assessment staff on updating placements in Banner </li><li>Coordinate English professor stipend payments with the Liberal Arts Division Administrator on a monthly basis </li><li>Accelerate Banner placement updates for quicker registration process </li><li>Perform the intake and English placement for all incoming non-native speakers </li><li>Possess excellent familiarity with all of the ELL programs at MCC (IEI, ELI, PAC, Adult Learning Center, academic ELL courses) </li><li>Determine which of the ELL programs is best suited to the students' abilities </li><li>Explain the appropriate placement avenue to the incoming students </li><li>Begin the process of registering them for the appropriate program </li><li>Oversee the translation of an introductory letter to non-native speakers into various languages </li><li>Provide information to students, faculty members, and other college staff relating to ELL placement and the Double Check policy using the relevant college systems, as needed. </li><li>Coordinate placement efforts with Admissions Office as needed to ensure appropriate placement procedures and seamless student experience. </li><li>Confer with the English Department Chair for direction, as needed. </li><li>Other related duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in English, ESL, or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree in English, ESL, or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience </li><li>Ability to follow written and oral instructions, to communicate effectively in oral expression, and to give written and oral instruction in a precise, understandable manner. </li><li>Ability to gather information through questioning individuals and assessing their English language skills. </li><li>Ability to maintain accurate records. </li><li>Ability to deal tactfully with others and establish rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships with persons of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical, language, and learning abilities. </li><li>Ability to learn and effectively use Microsoft Office software, Banner System, Degree Works, and other applications required for service to students. </li><li>Multilingual skills a plus </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salary Range: $35.31 is the starting hourly rate for Part-Time MCCC Professional Staff</p> <p>Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford</p> <p>Hours: 18.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire</p> <p>Expected Start Date: July 2025</p> <p>Application Deadline: June 20, 2025</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>All applicants must apply online by submitting:</p> <ul> <li>Cover Letter </li><li>Resume </li><li>Names and contact information for three (3) professional references </li></ul> <p>Pre-Employment Requirements:</p> <p>The College will not sponsor applicants for work visas.</p> <p>All offers of employment at Middlesex Community College are contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
