<p>Responsibilities for this Position</p> <p>Safety Representative - 1st Shift (Senior / Specialist / Specialist Senior / Staff Specialist)</p> <p>US-CT-Groton</p> <p>Job ID: 2025-15257</p> <p>Type: Full-Time</p> <p># of Openings: 1</p> <p>Category: Environmental, Health & Safety</p> <p>EB Groton Shipyard</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Electric Boat is seeking a Safety Representative to report to the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene. A Safety Representatives career path is as follows: Safety Representative, Safety Representative Senior, Safety Specialist, Safety Specialist Senior, and the highest, Safety Representative Staff Specialist. An employees initial title and compensation will be determined based upon the selected candidates experience and education.</p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Interfacing with all levels of management, production workers, and regulatory personnel </li><li>Conducting periodic surveillance's of ships and facilities for Safety deficiencies (including tracking and trending) </li><li>Review and assess various objective quality evidence (e.g. industrial hygiene sample data, training records, Material Safety Data Sheets for materials in use) </li><li>Observation of work to ensure hazards are addressed and proper procedure, tools, and PPE are being utilized </li><li>Providing oversight of contractor work both shipyard and non-shipyard, and identify and report deficiencies to the contracting organization </li><li>Participating in accident investigations, analyze safety and health data and develop recommended actions </li><li>Issuing written reports to management summarizing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions </li><li>Developing and revising safety and health training lesson plans </li><li>Providing safety and health training as necessary </li><li>Interfacing with off shift safety and health personnel </li><li>Maintaining the EB Safety Manual and support the Contractors Health and Safety Manual to ensure compliance with OSHA and OHSA'S 18001 </li><li>Developing and issuing Hazard Communication and Safety Bulletins to provide timely and necessary information to the workforce </li></ul> <p>This position requires one to work overtime as necessary, provide off-shift and weekend coverage, and travel on company business as necessary.</p> <p>Furthermore, the selected candidate will be required to be an active member of the deck plate safety and industrial hygiene programs to address issues and concerns at an industrial defense plant and work as a proactive safety professional by joining the Safety Team here at Electric Boat.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team </li><li>Ability to learn new skills and apply them </li><li>Ability to solve problems in a constructive manner </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or GED </li><li>A Bachelors, or above, degree in an Occupational Safety & Health field or 5 years or more of documented relative safety experience including hazard identification and mitigation in an industrial, heavy construction, manufacturing, or maritime environment. </li><li>Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed </li><li>Position is for 1st shift, but the candidate must be flexible to work all shifts </li><li>Position may require business travel to other Electric Boat sites </li><li>Must currently hold or apply for and maintain a secret clearance through the department of defense </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>BCSP Safety Certification (OHST, ASP, CSP) </li><li>Experience in a shipyard trade or construction environment </li></ul>
