<p>Position Title: Electrician</p> <p>Salary Range: Regionally Competitive</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Facilities/Director of Buildings and Grounds</p> <p>Summary: The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in school facilities. This role ensures that all electrical operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local and national codes. The Electrician will work independently and collaboratively to complete tasks that support the safe and effective operation of school buildings and grounds.</p> <p>Principal Characteristics of Work</p> <ul> <li>Frequent Activities: The primary responsibilities include installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, circuit breakers, transformers, panels, outlets, and switches throughout the school corporation. The Electrician also diagnoses electrical problems, replaces defective components, and ensures all systems are functioning properly. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, interpreting electrical schematics, and ensuring code compliance. The Electrician operates a wide range of tools and testing devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and wire tracers. Maintains responsibility for assigned tools, vehicles, and safety equipment. </li><li>Occasional Activities: Occasionally, the Electrician may be called upon to assist in planning electrical installations for new construction or renovations, estimate time and materials for projects, coordinate with outside contractors or utility providers, and participate in professional development related to new technologies or safety practices. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment in accordance with applicable codes. </li><li>Perform routine inspections of electrical systems to identify hazards, defects, and necessary repairs. </li><li>Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics. </li><li>Use testing equipment to diagnose electrical issues and ensure proper system function. </li><li>Maintain and update records of electrical repairs and maintenance. </li><li>Follow established safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures. </li><li>Collaborate with school leadership, maintenance teams, and contractors as needed. </li><li>Ensure minimal disruption to school operations while performing electrical work. </li><li>Maintain inventory of electrical supplies and request materials as needed. </li><li>Stay current on applicable building codes, safety regulations, and electrical standards. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Required Experience or Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in commercial or institutional electrical systems is necessary. Must hold or be able to obtain a valid electrician's license or journeyman certification. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass any required background checks. </li><li>Desired Experience or Training: Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship or post-secondary technical training is preferred. Additional experience with HVAC controls, emergency power systems, or low-voltage wiring is desirable. Familiarity with energy efficiency best practices and lighting control systems is also beneficial. </li><li>Special Requirements: Must have practical knowledge of electrical theory, NEC codes, and installation techniques. Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team. Must be detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate records and schedules. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems and manage multiple priorities effectively. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Mental Demands: Must be able to interpret complex diagrams and schematics, apply electrical theory, and comply with various regulatory requirements, including Building Codes, OSHA, and safety protocols. </li><li>Physical Demands: Must be able to work in confined spaces, on ladders, rooftops, and in various indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to lift 60 pounds without assistance and safely handle tools and equipment for extended periods. </li><li>Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily indoors but may include outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions. May be exposed to noise, dust, and occasional electrical hazards. Must be available for scheduled work hours and emergency response as needed. Must be able to handle stress. </li></ul>
