<p>This is full-time, routine work safeguarding City library buildings, equipment, facilities or other property against unauthorized entry, loss or damage from theft, fire, adverse weather conditions, vandalism, or other causes. Work includes enforcing City rules or regulations at a library building or on library property. Employees in this class work a varied schedule to provide coverage seven (7) days a week to various facilities, and due to the critical responsibilities of this classification, an employee in this position must also be able to report to work outside of normally scheduled work hours to address urgent needs, at the discretion of management.</p> <p>Salary: $17.21 - $23.41 Hourly</p> <p>Close Date: 07-09-2025 (11:59 PM)</p> <p>To Qualify</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:</p> <ul> <li>Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. </li><li>Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "D" Security License. </li><li>Have some experience in security work. </li><li>Have some skill in the operation of a computer. </li><li>Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:</p> <ul> <li>Have considerable experience in security work. </li><li>Have skill and experience in computer operations and related software applications. </li><li>Are able to recall and relate information accurately and reliably, and can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Are able to enforce rules and regulations with tact, firmness and impartiality and are able to resolve differences or conflicts of participants involved. </li><li>Are able to acquire detailed knowledge of various building interiors, exteriors, and local areas. </li><li>Are able to stand and walk for an extended period of time in various weather conditions. </li><li>Are able to manage their reactions in order to perform and behave skillfully under stress. </li><li>Are able to detect improper conduct and to take steps necessary to correct and report the condition. </li><li>Are able to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, communication styles, and perspectives. </li></ul> <p>RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT</p> <p>The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg.
