<p>Middle School P.E. and Community Wellness Teacher 1.0 FTE</p> <p>Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, 7-12, Public Charter School located in South Hadley, MA</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>PVPA has an opportunity for a health and physical education teacher beginning in August 2025 for the 2025-26 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who enjoys working with students in middle school and collaborating with colleagues. We are looking for a candidate who is excited to get creative about how to best use P.E. and Community Wellness as a platform to positively impact school culture and promote student joy as well as student sense of belonging.</p> <p>This is a new position that will plan and teach a high-interest, high-energy engaging health and physical education curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework. Additionally, the teacher will foster a positive school culture through activities focused on social-emotional learning and community building.</p> <p>The person hired for this position will collaborate closely with our school culture team, the wellness team, and school health office to include all of the strands of health education: physical health, social & emotional health, safety & prevention, and personal & community health into the program. The physical education component will emphasize physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. The health education component will include comprehensive, inclusive sexuality education as well as other health topics. The community building component will include community building activities, facilitating circles, and proactive efforts to support a positive school culture through health and wellness both individually for students and collectively for our student body. Under the direction of the Dean of Students the position is responsible for:</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching five blocks (classes) of health and physical education </li><li>Using an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives </li><li>Ensuring that health and physical education curriculum is inclusive of all students, including using a comprehensive, sex-positive, and LGBTQIA+ and disability-inclusive approach to sexuality education </li><li>Fostering body-positive and body-inclusive attitudes to physical activity and health </li><li>Collaborating with the school culture team, school counselors, school nurse, and others in the design and delivery of curriculum as appropriate </li><li>Drawing on community resources for guest speakers and other supplementary class activities when appropriate </li><li>Assessing student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via PowerSchool online grading system </li><li>Appling PVPA's standards-based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement </li><li>Coordinating with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners </li><li>Supervising students during non-class time (e.g., lunch) as required </li><li>Attending and participating in regular faculty meetings and school-wide professional development activities </li><li>Attending and participating in meetings with students and parents/guardians as scheduled, including an evening open house, and parent-teacher conferences </li><li>Participating in school-wide events that occur during the school day </li><li>Assisting with other faculty administrative duties as required </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualifications include:</p> <ul> <li>Eligible for "Highly Qualified" teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and PE Subject Matter MTEL exam within 1 year) or Massachusetts certification as a Health and/or Physical Education Teacher </li><li>Two or more years of experience teaching health and/or physical education in a public or private school or experience managing athletics and/or fitness programs for middle and high school age students </li><li>Ability to teach a variety of courses within the discipline and knowledge of curriculum standards </li><li>Experience with Google Suite and PowerSchool SIS </li></ul> <p>Other Information/Instructions:</p> <p>Salary Range: Full time $43,268 to $68,719 annually dependent upon degree and experience. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year.</p> <p>2025-2026 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.</p> <p>To apply please visit the PVPA Career Center at www.pvpa.org under the heading About/Employment Opportunities.
