<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Marietta College invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Geology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) beginning August 2026. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: hydrology, GIS, environmental science, low-temperature geochemistry, geological engineering, natural hazards and risk assessment, and geomorphology. The ideal candidate would have a proven track record of undergraduate, field-based teaching, and involvement of undergraduate students in research.</p> <p>Our class sizes are small and field-based learning is encouraged and supported; opportunities to lead travel courses with students are also available. Research with undergraduate students is also expected and supported. The university's location at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers is ideal for environmental geology projects, and it is expected the candidate would utilize this resource in their courses and research. The expected teaching duties will be 12 credits hours per semester.</p> <p>Marietta College recently formed the Center for Earth, Energy, and Environment, and it is anticipated that the selected candidate would play a key role in enhancing environmental science in the center. Marietta College is also home to the only petroleum engineering program at a small liberal arts college, and the candidate's ability to contribute to curriculum involving energy and engineering would be welcome. Review of applications will begin January 15th and continue until the position is filled.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., but candidates who are ABD will also be considered. </li><li>Proficiency with GIS. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and incorporation of undergraduates in research. </li><li>Past involvement in Environmental Science degree programs, or other closely related interdisciplinary programs, and associated curricular development. </li><li>Proven expertise in hydrology and geological engineering. </li><li>Ability to secure external funding to support undergraduate research. </li></ul> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, teaching statement (limit 2 pages), and contact information for three professional references.
