<p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Under the supervision of the School Age Director and Leadership team the Day Camp Travel Lead for the Voyagers Program works with 8 to 12 campers as their caregiver, role model, mentor and leader. The Voyager Counselor must be 21 years of age and have their chauffeur's license or be willing to obtain a chauffeur's license upon hire, and willing to travel with children. Our Voyager's Program is for 12-15-year-olds and includes field trips to Mystic Aquarium, Six Flags, Water Wizz, and area beaches.</p> <p>They will earn valuable experience not only as a care giver but as a leader. Counselors develop skills in communication, attention to detail, teamwork, leadership, workplace flexibility, experience in healthcare and overall professionalism. This includes monitoring and guiding campers in all activities, managing behavior, and ensuring that safety guidelines are followed. </li><li>Implementing Curriculum: Lead and assist in the implementation of the camp's daily curriculum, including arts and crafts, sports, team-building activities, and nature-based education. Engage campers in these activities, providing direction, support, and encouragement. </li><li>Positive Role Modeling: Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating good behavior, teamwork, and respect. Foster an inclusive and supportive camp culture. </li><li>Communication: Maintain open communication with campers, fellow staff members, and parents. Provide updates on campers' progress and any issues that arise. </li><li>Conflict Resolution: Address any conflicts between campers with patience and professionalism, ensuring a peaceful and cooperative environment. </li><li>Health and Wellness: Monitor campers' physical and emotional health, and report any concerns to camp leadership. Ensure that campers follow proper health and hygiene protocols, including managing allergies and medication needs. </li><li>Camp Activities: Participate in planning and executing special camp events, field trips, and group activities. </li><li>Team Collaboration: Work closely with other counselors and camp staff to ensure smooth operation of the camp, including assisting with setting up activities, cleaning up after events, and supporting each other as needed. </li><li>Documentation: Accurately complete daily camper reports and any required paperwork, such as incident reports or health logs. </li></ul> <p>YMCA COMPETENCIES (Team Leader):</p> <p>Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Ys values. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.</p> <p>Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 21 years of age </li><li>Chauffer's license or willing to obtain upon hire </li><li>Child Abuse Prevention training required before hire. </li><li>Current or willing to obtain First Aid and CPR </li><li>Passing Criminal Background check </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Running and playing with children </li><li>Ability to swim </li><li>Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. </li><li>Possible exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. </li><li>Must be able to lift and carry/or assist children us to 50 pounds in weight </li><li>Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. </li><li>Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. </li><li>Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. </li><li>Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. </li><li>Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. </li></ul>
