<p>Job Title: Desktop Support Administrator</p> <p>Department: Iowa Valley Technology Services</p> <p>Reports To: Chief Information Officer</p> <p>Job Classification: Exempt</p> <p>Location: This is an in-person position and requires on-site work at our office located in Marshalltown, IA</p> <p>Summary: The purpose of this position is to support and maintain the District's endpoint, identity, and application environments. Primary areas of responsibility include endpoint lifecycle management within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, endpoint and identity security, Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory user and access management, application support for District-administered software platforms, and printing and print management services. This position provides technical assistance to end users for District-owned devices, classroom and instructional technology, video conferencing systems, printing resources, and related peripheral equipment, and assists with vendor coordination as needed. This position participates in the planning and implementation of IT systems to ensure that they meet the District's needs, are as secure as possible, follow industry best practices, and comply with all regulatory requirements.</p> <p>This position is based in Marshalltown and provides onsite support to all District locations, including Ellsworth Community College, Marshalltown Community College, and Iowa Valley Grinnell.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Administers endpoint management platforms within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This includes Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM) for device lifecycle management. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining standardized workstation images, managing device configuration profiles, compliance and security baselines, application packaging and deployment, operating system and application patching, and producing device and deployment reports using industry best practices. </li><li>Supports endpoint and identity security operations within Microsoft 365. Administers Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and related Microsoft 365 Security tools by monitoring alerts, investigating potential threats, and responding to security incidents affecting endpoints and user accounts. Assists with endpoint hardening, vulnerability remediation, security reporting, and integration with cloud app security and identity protection controls. </li><li>Administers Microsoft identity, access, and tenant services. Manages user and device identities within Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) and on-premises Active Directory, including user lifecycle management, group administration, and role-based access control. Creates, maintains, and enforces Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Intune configuration policies, Conditional Access policies, and other identity-driven security controls in alignment with District security standards. </li><li>Provides application support for District-administered software platforms, including both on-premises and cloud-based applications. Collaborates with users to support business and instructional applications by assisting with configuration, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and coordination with vendors as needed. Supports application access management, assists with testing and deployment of application updates or new features, maintains basic application configuration references, and provides end-user guidance to support reliable and secure application operation. </li><li>Provides technical support and customer-focused IT services to end users. Delivers both on-site and remote support for District-owned desktops, laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, classroom and instructional technology, videoconferencing systems, printing resources, and wired and wireless network connectivity. Provides end-user guidance and training as needed, and ensures all incidents, service requests, and resolutions are documented in the District's IT helpdesk system. </li><li>Supports the District's printing and print management infrastructure. Assists with printer and multi-function device setup, configuration, and deployment, including print queue and driver deployment using PaperCut. Provides troubleshooting and end-user support for printing services, secure/release printing workflows, and printer access issues, and coordinates with vendors as needed to support reliable printing operations. </li><li>Assists with account provisioning and access management processes. Processes new, modified, and terminated user access requests, including account creation, permissions changes, password resets, and system access updates, ensuring adherence to least-privilege and security best practices. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of an Associate's degree with an emphasis in a technology-related field required. Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in a technology or cybersecurity-related field preferred. </li><li>One year of experience providing technical support in a Microsoft-based environment is required. </li></ul> <p>Abilities: This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, technical aptitude, effective problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work in an environment of shifting priorities and frequent interruptions. Along with these general characteristics, the position requires experience working within a Microsoft-based environment, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, and endpoint management concepts. The position also requires an understanding of device and identity management, including familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), group policy management, Intune configuration policies, and access control concepts. A working knowledge of endpoint and identity security practices, including monitoring and responding to basic security issues, is required. Experience supporting cloud-based and on-premises applications, printing systems, and related peripheral equipment is also needed. This position must be able to install, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot endpoint devices, applications, identity-related services, and associated systems.
