<p>Description</p> <p>Performs difficult skilled trades work planning, coordinating, supervising, and participating in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets and Right-of-Ways, preparing and maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision. Supervision is exercised over all personnel within the division.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li> <p>Plans, directs, reviews and participates in the work of staff in an assigned division to ensure proper completion of work projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains job tickets, completes logbooks or other records, and prepares reports for management.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with purchasing the assigned unit's needed materials and supplies, maintains stock and inventory of supplies and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in the recruitment and selection of division personnel; coaches, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates the work of personnel; completes personnel-related forms such as time sheets and addresses personnel-related issues such as time-off and discipline.</p> </li><li> <p>Schedules and Participates in assigned crew work; explains work projects or orders to crew personnel, manages work load and completion of work to ensure quality completion.</p> </li><li> <p>Responds to inquiries, questions, or complaints.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with and assists other crews as needed or assigned</p> </li><li> <p>May be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency situations.</p> </li></ul> <p>Typical Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in general construction, maintenance, and/or grounds keeping work including supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and/or Certifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.</p> </li><li> <p>May require possession of or ability to obtain specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtain Commercial Class-B driver's license within six months of hire.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtain CPR, AED, Work zone Traffic Control, and VDOT Flagger certifications within six months of hire.</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in assigned skilled or trades unit</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with type of work assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Organization, time and materials estimate skills, team-leadership and interpersonal skills</p> </li><li> <p>Manual skills required for assigned area of responsibility</p> </li></ul> <p>Abilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to operate hand, power or automotive equipment used in assigned unit</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to perform labor outdoors for long periods of time</p> </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights, dust, fumes and hazardous materials such as petroleum products, paint, solvents, asphalt, concrete, herbicides and pesticides. </li></ul> <p>Essential Physical Activities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.</p> </li><li> <p>If job requires frequent lifting, typical weight handled: up to 75lbs</p> </li></ul> <p>DISCLAIMER:The above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
