<p>Job Overview</p> <p>The General Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily, monthly, and annual operations for the centralized accounting functions, including the general accounting and expense accounts payable teams. They will develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. A successful General Accounting Manager will provide support to other Accounting and Finance department leaders as well as leaders throughout the organization by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the company's financial reports.</p> <p>Responsibilities and Duties</p> <ul> <li>General Accounting </li><li>Implement and enforce general accounting policies and procedures. </li><li>Oversee and participate in special projects and perform other accounting related duties as requested. </li><li>Serve as a highly-skilled user of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) tool and drive productivity, efficiency, and accuracy of financial data within it. </li><li>Apply basic principles, concepts, and accounting practices in recording and preparing final accounts. </li><li>General Ledger Maintenance </li><li>Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of journal entries for standard and non-standard items in general ledger accounts. </li><li>Record journal entries to adjust the balance of income and expenses at the end of an accounting period including transactions for accruals and reversals. </li><li>Maintain and review accuracy of general ledger and trial balances, including preparation of monthly account reconciliations. </li><li>Identify variances within financial data and properly identify and communicate root causes. </li><li>Financial Reporting and Audits </li><li>Prepare financial statements for business leaders, HTI's Board of Directors (BOD), and shareholders in an accurate and timely manner. </li><li>Support management in ensuring financial plans are integrated into operational strategies by working closely with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and operations. </li><li>Seek to improve operations that increase the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and data. </li><li>Oversee and/or perform required financial audits for the company. </li><li>Internal Controls and Compliance </li><li>Establish, monitor and continuously improve processes and procedures to exercise financial control, ensure internal and external compliance and minimize risk. Hold others accountable to these standards and take action to correct when necessary. </li><li>Oversee accounts, ledgers, and financial reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate US GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. </li><li>Perform regular audits to ensure accuracy and adherence to company policies. </li><li>Work with internal teams and external auditors during audits to ensure smooth and efficient audits of accounting records. </li><li>Collaborate with leadership on assigning and defining roles and responsibilities for internal controls to ensure effectiveness and proficiency of operations and reliability of financial reporting. </li><li>Report on internal control compliance to the appropriate authority, including external auditors. </li><li>Assist with all audit activity and provide necessary documentation and support to auditors. </li><li>Management and Team Development </li><li>Consistently exhibits HTI's core values and servant leadership style. </li><li>Sets vision for their team to produce profitable business results and achieve high performance. </li><li>Places an emphasis on employee engagement and retention to boost productivity and performance and reduce employee turnover. </li><li>Oversee the employee life cycle which includes hiring, development, engagement, retention and separation. </li><li>Participate in the definition of roles within the team to support the Value Creation Plan and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for each role to review on a regular cadence and in annual reviews. </li><li>Strategize with other leaders on ideal career paths within the function. </li><li>Understand team member's career goals and support them in achieving the career path they wish to follow. </li><li>Participate in the development of a training program for the team for specific roles and behavioral skills training. </li><li>Encourage and foster a collaborative work environment within the team and between the team and other departments. </li><li>Lead teams to develop reliable processes and procedures that produce results. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>7-10 years of experience in general accounting, finance and accounting services, etc. required </li><li>Experience in transportation and/or distribution preferred </li><li>A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or another related field is strongly preferred </li><li>Prior leadership experience is required </li><li>Shown professionalism through clear, concise, and consistent communication with internal teams, external customers and key stakeholders </li><li>Proficient understanding and use of Microsoft Office Suite products, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, finance and asset management systems, and business analytics tools </li><li>Experienced and forward-thinking professional with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem solving and change management </li><li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail </li><li>Ability to develop processes, procedures and reporting </li><li>Ability to collaboratively work with leaders within and outside of their department </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. infrequently </li><li>Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer </li></ul> <p>Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Affordable Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (BCBS) </li><li>401k + Company Match! </li><li>Life Insurance/Accidental Death/Long Term Disability - Company Paid </li><li>Supplemental Life Insurance </li><li>PTO and Paid Holidays after 30 days </li><li>Parental Leave after 6 Months of Hire </li><li>Employee Assistance Program (EAP) </li><li>Opportunities for Advancement </li><li>Employees are eligible for benefits the 1st of the month following 60 days* </li></ul> <p>Why work for HTI?</p> <p>Hinton Transportation Investments, Inc (HTI) is a family-owned company located in Byron Center, MI that has been around for 40 years.
