<p>Overview</p> <p>The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.</p> <p>An athletic trainer is a health care professional who collaborates with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.</p> <p>Athletic trainers function under the direction and supervision of a physician, both through standing protocols (off-line medical control) or through direct physician consultation</p> <p>Some of the many skills performed</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries as set forth by the BOC: </li></ul> <p>o prevention</p> <p>o assessment</p> <p>o treatment</p> <p>o reconditioning</p> <ul> <li>Exhibit proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment </li><li>Provide athletic training coverage for the following: </li></ul> <p>o All home and away varsity football games</p> <p>o Home varsity athletic competitions</p> <p>o Practices</p> <p>o Away varsity competition as feasible</p> <p>o Other non-varsity home competitions</p> <p>o Marshall Medical Centers sponsored sporting events and tournaments</p> <ul> <li>Act as a liaison between team physician, family physician, medical specialists, school, athlete and family </li><li>Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and proper documentation from the physician including: </li></ul> <p>o Computer based documentation</p> <ul> <li>Schedule and be present for pre-participation sports physicals (to be determined by school). </li><li>Provide the sports specific coaches with the proper documentation regarding their athletes. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in athletic training or closely related health field.</p> <p>LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:</p> <p>BOC Certification</p> <p>Licensure by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.</p> <p>CPR/AED for Healthcare Provider Certification</p>
