<p>SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary objective of school health services provided by the school nurse is to foster the optimum level of wellness for students and staff. The school nurse provides a broad range of health services including acute, episodic and emergency care. School nurses manage the care of students with special health care needs at school. The school nurse coordinates the health needs of students to reduce barriers and promote effective learning. The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district.</p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Assesses the current health needs of the student population </li><li>Maintains individual health records on each student </li><li>Coordinates and manages the health needs of students within the school </li><li>Administers required daily and prn medications </li><li>Provides required medical treatments to students with specialized health care needs </li><li>Develops Individualized Health Care Plans for students with specialized health care needs </li><li>Ensures students comply with mandated school health requirements </li><li>Provides daily episodic care to students/staff </li><li>Provides emergency care to students/staff </li><li>Controls the spread of communicable diseases within the school </li><li>Conducts required health screenings for students (vision, hearing, postural, heights and weights) </li><li>Refers students/staff for follow up medical evaluations </li><li>Collaborates with parents, physicians and identified community agencies to coordinate students' health care within the school </li><li>Provides health education to students and staff around specified health issues/topics </li></ul> <p>The school nurse is a member of the Student Support Team, Crisis Team and Wellness Team.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Registered Nurse, Bachelor Degree </li><li>Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts </li><li>MA DESE licensure as a school nurse </li><li>Two years of prior nursing experience in school, pediatric, public health or other relevant clinical areas </li><li>CPR/AED certified </li></ul> <p>Reports to: Director of Nursing and School Principal</p>
