You will design and deliver secure authentication pathways (SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect), standards-based healthcare data exchange (FHIR), and robust containerized deployments-all while mentoring engineers and championing best practices in security, performance, and operational excellence.</p> <p>Core Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Lead end-to-end development of intuitive web application features using modern frameworks and Python back-ends (Django). </li><li>Implement and maintain enterprise authentication integrations leveraging SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect to enable seamless single-sign-on experiences. </li><li>Design and oversee FHIR, Cerner, PCMIS, Xealth and IAPT based data synchronization pipelines that securely exchange clinical data with external EHRs and partner platforms. </li><li>Collaborate with Customer Success and Support to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to authentication, data, and deployments, ensuring a seamless experience for customers. </li><li>Build, harden, and publish Docker images; define security-focused CI/CD stages; and collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure compliant roll-outs across environments. </li><li>Partner closely with Product, Security, and Compliance to translate regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, STIG) into actionable engineering tasks. </li><li>Contribute to architectural discussions and propose scalable solutions. </li><li>We value engineers who drive results, communicate effectively, and thrive in collaborative, agile environments. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>8+ years experience in Python 3, Django (or similar), REST API design and relational databases like PostgreSQL/MySQL. </li><li>Proven expertise in secure identity and access management: SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and related protocols. </li><li>Hands-on experience with HL7?FHIR resources, profiles, and RESTful APIs for data exchange. </li><li>Deep understanding of containerization (Docker), image hardening, and supply-chain security; familiarity with Kubernetes or similar orchestration a plus. </li><li>Strong background in REST API design, relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and performance optimization. </li><li>Solid understanding of web security best practices. </li><li>Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Git, and automated testing frameworks. </li><li>Agile team experience, with effective collaboration across architecture, design, and product. </li></ul> <p>Additionally:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with healthcare interoperability frameworks (SMART on FHIR). </li><li>Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). </li><li>Contribution to code reviews, innovation and mentoring juniors. </li></ul> <p>Additional information</p> <p>Job Level: P4</p> <p>Your Team:</p> <p>You'll join a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers passionate about improving mental health through technology.</p> <p>Working at Amwell:</p> <p>Amwell is changing how care is delivered through online and mobile technology. The actual salary offer will ultimately depend on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, relevant education, experience, complexity or specialization of talent, and other objective factors. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an annual bonus based on a combination of company performance and employee performance. Long-term incentive and short-term variable compensation may be offered as part of the compensation package dependent on the role. Some roles may be commission based, in which case the total compensation will be based on a commission and the above range may not be an accurate representation of total compensation.</p> <p>Further, the above range is subject to change based on market demands and operational needs and does not constitute a promise of a particular wage or a guarantee of employment.
