<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Center for Mental Health, 2125 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston, SC 29414.</p> <p>The Office of Mental Health's mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.</p> <p>As the Counselor, you will answer incoming crisis calls and provide telephone triage, crisis intervention service, screening and consultation in a culturally competent manner for the Mobile Crisis Call Center. Follow up calls to callers may be required as well as, linkage to other emergency services and first responders. Deploy mobile crisis teams statewide when safety planning is not a variable option.</p> <p>Responsibilities for the Counselor:</p> <ul> <li>Provide a quality response in a culturally competent manner to callers of the Mobile Crisis Call Center. </li><li>Improve/follow communication, collaboration and procedures in support of the emergency services continuum of care. </li><li>Knowledgeable of and accountable for documentation expectations. </li><li>Demonstrate recognition of the importance of collaboration and teamwork within the Center and the community. </li><li>Operate in an efficient and organized manner. </li><li>Retain overall responsibility for meeting Quality Assurance standards. </li><li>Comply with all OMH/CDMHC policies and protocols, applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Competence, and CARF policies, procedures and regulations and all Federal and State laws as well as attend all trainings classified as mandatory by Federal and State regulations. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in the crisis continuum of care a plus. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Post hire, employees must:</p> <ul> <li>Have working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles and practices. </li><li>Experience working, and/or education in the mental health field. </li><li>Good listening skills and the ability to screen, assess and consult with callers. </li><li>Have working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies in the community. </li><li>Be able to remain calm in crisis. </li><li>Have good writing skills. </li><li>Be able to multi-task. </li><li>This is an essential position and may require some afterhours work to help fill in when staff are out and/or position could be designed for after hours or weekends. </li><li>Some travel maybe required for training purposes. </li><li>Understand, he/she is expected to have a serviceable vehicle to use for business and will be reimbursed according to applicable State policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Available Shifts:</p> <p>Tuesday - Saturday 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM</p> <p>Sunday - Thursday 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM</p> <p>The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions including, but not limited, to lactation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.</p> <p>Supplemental questions are considered part of your official application.
