<p>Description</p> <p>Under general supervision, inspects, repairs, rebuilds, adjusts, assembles, and/or installs one or several related types of relatively simple mechanical assemblies.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Dismantles, cleans and inspects parts for excessive wear or other defects, replacing defective parts including, but not limited to, gears, bushings, gear shafts and dial assemblies. </li><li>Scrapes, files, fits and installs bushings, bearings, pins, bolts and discs and adjusts diaphragms. </li><li>Laps or grinds valve seats, discs, or other contact surfaces to obtain water or airtight fits. </li><li>Installs new parts, such as gears, crank shafts, connecting rods, pistons, piston rings and wrist pins. </li><li>Measures, cuts, threads, fits and installs pipe and connects them to hydraulically or pneumatically operated units and controls. </li><li>Cuts, bends, flares and fits seamless tubing. </li><li>Removes and replaces bolts, washers, springs, pins, rods, plates, brackets and small castings. </li><li>Fits new parts in place by filing, grinding, drilling or reaming to the proper size and shape and laying out work on parts and castings to determine the location for drilling holes or cutting off excess material. </li><li>Inspects units repaired to see that all necessary work has been performed. </li><li>Repacks stuffing boxes, calibrates, installs, tests, or replaces meters. </li><li>Makes minor repairs to meters in the field. </li><li>Disconnects, removes, cleans, straightens and/or replaces coils, springs, rods, brackets, electrodes, bulbs, fuses, sockets, receptacles, fixtures, reflectors, and globes. </li><li>Cuts out defective sections of hose, installs couplings, threads or rethreads couplings and other fittings, solders or welds holes or breaks in metal containers and fittings, tests equipment to be sure that it is water or air tight and that moving or adjustable parts work freely. </li><li>Maintains records of jobs performed, including a record of time and materials spent on each job. </li><li>Performs moderately difficult repairs on equipment such as pumps, conveyors, incinerators, and various recording and regulating devices. </li><li>Drives a vehicle between job locations and loads and unloads materials and equipment. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications (required):</p> <p>Completion of two (2) years of high school, preferably with course work in shop or an apprenticeship in the mechanical trades.
