<p>Summary Statement</p> <p>Boise Parks and Recreation is hiring for Adaptive Rec Leader's to support and lead programs, camps, and events for individuals with disabilities at community centers and in the community. This role includes assisting with the coordination and delivery of safe, inclusive, and appropriate activities, while working closely with staff and supervisors.</p> <p>This recruitment will fill a weekly Tuesday evening shift (5:45-8:45pm) and/or a weekly Saturday shift (1-8pm). Other hours may be available but are not guaranteed.</p> <p>The position requires the use of independent judgment and discretion. It is an at-will role, open to all applicants age 19 and older.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Leads groups of adults with disabilities involved with Boise Parks and Recreation's adaptive recreation program on pre-established activities and outings in the community such as bowling, sporting events, movies, dinner, dances, etc. Assists supervisor and staff in coordinating safe, fun and appropriate activities. Will be required to drive a 12-or 15-passenger van to transport participants to/from activities. </li><li>Ensures the safety of the participants while in the community. Properly manages money for group activities in the community. </li><li>Occasionally works one-on-one with individuals with disabilities so they can fully integrate into parks and recreation programs. </li><li>Acts as liaison between parks and recreation and activity destinations. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. </li><li>Facilitate wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby programs. This includes supervising, occasionally assisting participants, hauling equipment to and from storage closets, and minor equipment repairs like wheelchair tube changes. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training</p> <ul> <li>Six months' experience volunteering or working with individuals with disabilities. </li><li>Working knowledge of best practices and inclusion techniques for working with/teaching individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities. </li><li>Ability to provide instruction to individuals with disabilities; communicate and establish rapport with participants of all ages and ability levels; deal with the public, coworkers and supervisors in a friendly and tactful manner; recognize and redirect misbehavior; use strong human relations and organizational skills; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation </li></ul> <p>Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training</p> <ul> <li>One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities and teaching classes or leading programs with multiple participants </li><li>Current certification in First Aid and CPR. </li></ul> <p>Licensing And Other Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Valid state-issued driver's license. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <p>Applicants must be able to pass:</p> <ul> <li>City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation </li><li>Driving Record Check </li><li>Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test. </li><li>This position is required to work directly with and oversee minors in the absence of their parent or guardian, or work directly with and oversee vulnerable adults in the absence of their caretaker or guardian. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Physical Efforts</p> <ul> <li>While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand and walk. Additional physical efforts include: must be able to transfer individuals in and out of adaptive equipment and to physically react quickly. </li></ul> <p>Working Environment</p> <ul> <li>The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Will be leading programs inside of community centers and out in the public. </li></ul>
