All persons hired into Limited Term (LT) positions will be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying conditions of employment.</p> <p>HOURS OF WORK: 4/10's, 7 am-6 pm, M-Th , with some weekends and on call weeks to support special events, operations, and extended hours.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will have experience working in print media and/or in a newsroom setting, developing and coordinating media relations outreach and messaging, serving as a liaison between organizations, the media and impacted audiences; demonstrate strong research, written and verbal communication skills; have experience in writing news stories, long form features, and press releases, and have the ability to remain poised while communicating challenging information to the media and those impacted by the information.</p> <p>INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.</p> <p>GENERAL PURPOSE</p> <p>Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of District, Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) and Springs Preserve public outreach and public engagement programs and activities; plans, implements and participates in special events; develops and coordinates the content for print materials and media for use in public information, official publication and internal communication programs; promotes and communicates District/SNWA/Preserve programs, operations and activities; and performs related duties as assigned.</p> <p>DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <p>Principles, methods and practices applied in the design and implementation of public relations, community affairs, public engagement and marketing programs; methods and techniques of writing for advertising, marketing and public relations; practices, methods and techniques of program development and project management including preparation and management of detailed project schedules, budgets and metrics; basic audience segmentation principles and practices; operations of District/SNWA/Preserve as applicable to area of assigned responsibility; principles, practices and methods for development and maintenance of community partnerships; principles and practices of sound business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Apply program/project management practices and methods in planning and coordinating implementation of a wide variety of public outreach campaigns and events; discern and understand the values, needs and issues of target audiences and the local community in order to create outreach District/SNWA/Preserve communications and programs that are inclusive and responsive; apply writing and visual communication styles and creative approaches appropriate for differing journalistic/public relations purposes and for distribution through differing media channels; operate a computer using word processing, and other standard software; apply critical thinking skills to identify and anticipate operational questions, issues and needs; evaluate alternatives and recommend effective solutions and courses of action; understand, interpret, explain and apply law and regulations applicable to areas of responsibility; present detailed information, ideas and recommendations clearly and persuasively to internal and external stakeholders; prepare clear, comprehensive and accurate written materials and records; exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues and volatile situations; exercise sound judgment within established guidelines; establish and maintain highly effective relationships with managers, staff, customers, consultants, vendors, businesses and others encountered in the course of work.</p> <p>Training and Experience:</p> <p>A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in journalism, public relations, communications or a closely related field; and two years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving the development and coordination of public outreach programs and materials; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.</p> <p>Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:</p> <p>A valid Nevada driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy may be required for some assignments.</p> <p>PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this class.
