The Underwriter develops and fosters positive, professional relationships with the company's agency partners, as well as achieves company growth and profitability objectives. The Underwriter must be a team player and exhibit expertise in workers compensation, must consistently exercise good judgment and be familiar with loss sensitive plans.</p> <p>Key functions include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Selects new business and evaluates renewal accounts in accordance with company underwriting philosophy, established authority parameters, as well as written/verbal procedures and guidelines </li><li>Demonstrates a professional, courteous attitude with agents. Responds quickly and ethically to all requests/issues. Participates in round table Underwriting meetings to assess opportunities, plans and pricing </li><li>Provides accurate and thorough education to agents about the company's risk selection philosophy and pricing guidelines </li><li>Achieves company growth objectives by recognizing sales opportunities, soliciting desirable business, and diligent follow-up on quoted business </li><li>Occasionally travels to agencies, team and policyholder meetings </li><li>Reviews claims activity, loss control surveys, and inspection reports for existing policies, handling as required </li><li>Underwrite and manage a portfolio of large, complex, loss-sensitive accounts </li><li>Evaluate risk exposures, industry classifications, and loss history to determine pricing and coverage </li><li>Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients </li><li>Collaborate with internal teams, including claims, risk control, actuarial, and credit, to create comprehensive solutions </li><li>Ensure compliance with state and federal workers' compensation regulations. </li><li>Negotiate policy terms and conditions for large accounts </li><li>Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriters </li><li>Monitor claims trends and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly </li><li>Resolves policy audit issues </li><li>Determines the appropriate course of action for policy changes, delegating to underwriting and/or processing assistants for handling. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>BA/BS degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent </li><li>7-10 years of experience in California workers' compensation underwriting. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, decision-oriented environment. </li><li>Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. </li><li>Strong automation skills including MS Office products. </li><li>Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. </li></ul> <p>Additional Company Details</p> <p>We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms. The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include: • Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $165,000 • Annual Bonus Eligible • Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
