Duties include:</p> <ul> <li>Patrol Douglas County to prevent and detect crime </li><li>Respond to calls for service, including accidents and emergencies </li><li>Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports </li><li>Gather and preserve evidence </li><li>Secure and process crime scenes </li><li>Serve warrants, subpoenas, and civil processes </li><li>Arrest suspects and testify in court </li><li>Maintain public order and safety </li></ul> <p>Required Equipment:</p> <p>Deputy Sheriffs are required to supply their own duty handgun and limited personal equipment (undershirts, duty boots, flashlight) prior to being sworn in.</p> <p>Ask for specific equipment requirements before making purchases.</p> <p>Essential Skills & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Legal knowledge: Apply laws, make arrests, conduct searches, preserve evidence</p> </li><li> <p>Physical readiness: Run, climb, lift, and safely operate vehicles and handle firearms</p> </li><li> <p>Communication: Write detailed reports and interact professionally with the public</p> </li><li> <p>Emotional resilience: Handle high-stress situations with professionalism and empathy</p> </li><li> <p>Teamwork: Maintain effective relationships with colleagues and the community</p> </li><li> <p>Technology: Use Windows-based systems and law enforcement software</p> </li></ul> <p>For a detailed job description, CLICK HERE</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must be a United States citizen or legal permanent resident who is lawfully present in the United States pursuant to Federal Law and § 24-76.5-103, C.R.S. </li><li>Must possess a current Basic Colorado POST Certification or currently attending a CO POST recognized basic academy with a scheduled graduation date. Provisional CO POST Certifications NOT accepted at this time. </li><li>At least 21 years of age </li><li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>Valid Colorado driver's license </li><li>Ability to pass various qualifying exams and a pre-employment background investigation </li><li>Ability to pass polygraph, psychological, and medical exams </li><li>Ability to perform under stress and perform physical tests consistent with law enforcement requirements to include running, climbing barriers, jumping over, or climbing under or through obstacles and performing strenuous physical activity. </li><li>Ability to pass a physical obstacle course within 96 seconds. Divisional assignments are not guaranteed, and all applicants must be prepared and willing to work any shift, in either Detentions or Patrol.* </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:</p> <p>In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.
