We recently found that the nucleus ruptures when cells experience physical confinement, exposing nuclear DNA to damage from cytosolic nucleases generating changes in gene expression and cellular behavior (Nader et al., 2021, Cell). Our lab combines fluorescence microscopy techniques with novel microfabricated and organ-on-a chip devices to mimic crowded spaces such as the tumor microenvironment, interstitial space or a densely packed tissue. We propose to better understand how cell and nuclear confinement influences transcriptional programs in cells experiencing mechanical stress imposed by the surrounding microenvironment. Additionally, my lab seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying cell motility and invasion following repeated nuclear rupture and chronic DNA damage.</p> <p>Candidates should be highly motivated individuals, with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in cell/molecular biology, biophysics or related fields. Postdoc candidates are expected to be highly independent to develop their own ideas using new multidisciplinary approaches, sophisticated techniques in cell biology and the strong microscopy facilities available in my lab and in our department.</p> <p>Post-docs will be exposed to various areas of biomedical research including immunology, cancer biology, mechanobiology and related fields. The environment at CHOP/U Penn is highly dynamic and collaborative. Trainees have access to cutting-edge technology and a wealth of resources for postdoctoral career development."</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct independent scholarly research, developing new methods and protocols under the guidance of a mentor (principal investigator).</p> </li><li> <p>Acquire technical, lab management, and grant writing skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, national presentations, and professional workshops.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise junior lab members.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with other research projects as needed.</p> </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Required: Doctorate </li></ul> <p>SALARY RANGE:</p> <p>$20,800.00 - $110,400.00 Annually</p> <p>Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs.
