Join the #1 rated and best team in the market as our next Weekend Sports Anchor and MMJ.</p> <p>Our next team member will contribute daily to elevating our sports coverage and having hits outside of the traditional "sports segments." Our Weekend Sports Anchor/MMJ is a high-profile position that requires a passion for the job, creativity, and leadership.</p> <p>The person we hire must be a natural and dynamic storyteller who knows how to build relationships and find the story behind the press releases, play-by-plays, and game highlights.</p> <p>Viewers can find those stats online before the newscast starts. Our mission is to find and deliver high-impact, compelling, and engaging sports content on every platform. You must be as excited about digital as you are about working in the field and being on-air.</p> <p>You will also be an ambassador, championing our community outreach initiatives. We are consistently recognized for serving our communities through initiatives like the WMTV Diaper Drive, our Share Your Holidays campaign benefiting Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, and Take Your Brat To Work Day-the original, drive-through fundraising event.</p> <p>Applicants must have the desire to win, show initiative, and have the ability to reflect on their work and apply feedback.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will also possess versatility, speed, and accuracy when it comes to gathering and verifying facts, shooting and editing video, and writing. It's a great time to be covering sports in the state of Wisconsin and a great time to work at WMTV.</p> <p>Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Understand our DMA, key target audiences, and where they live. </li><li>Develop sources within the community to gain unique, "Only On" insight and reports on important and impactful sports stories that appeal to educated sports fans and even non-sports fans. </li><li>Pitch original story ideas daily and turn packages regularly. </li><li>Strong research skills, ability to employ critical thinking skills to dig and go "beyond the press release" and game highlights. </li><li>Work with a sense of immediacy independently and as a team. We expect you to confirm incoming news & sports tips and to share that information immediately as new information is learned. </li><li>Be first and best with the story. Write and post copy daily to all broadcast and digital platforms. You will produce sports content for wmtv15news.com, social media, our news app, and television newscasts. </li><li>Produce and front weekly content, including breaking sports news on CTV, from our digital streaming desk. </li><li>Ensure story selection and placement in your rundown fits journalistic/editorial standards, as well as WMTV's brand pillars. </li><li>Execute a daily digital plan tailored to your assignment and long-term projects. This includes posting to social media throughout your shift, identifying opportunities for live streaming, getting live and user-generated content to our newsroom's News Now Desk & digital streaming desk. </li><li>Produce engaging and error-free work. Pay attention to the details! </li><li>Support the news team on big story days, including Elections. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications/Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>We prefer a college degree in journalism or a related field, and at least one or more year of newsroom or digital producing experience. </li><li>A strong candidate will have an established and responsible presence on digital platforms, including social media. </li><li>Understanding of and adherence to AP Style (on digital platforms) and broadcast writing for television. </li><li>Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), proven news judgment, ethics, and integrity. </li><li>Strong work ethic, organizational, and leadership skills. Must be able to work quickly, make deadlines, multi-task, and show composure, especially during breaking news & sports. </li><li>Working knowledge of CMS and Digital platforms, including ARC and Social News Desk.
