<p>Description</p> <ul> <li>This is not a remote position. * </li></ul> <p>The City of Caldwell is looking for an Assistant City Engineer. Individual assists in the management of the Engineering Department and development of construction and Local Improvement District projects for the City's Engineering Department; performs related work as required.</p> <p>Sign-on bonus of $5000 will be offered: $2500 on the first paycheck and $2500 after one year of employment.</p> <p>The principal function of an employee in this class is to assist in the management of the Engineering Department and assist in the direction of the design and development of public works and Local Improvement District projects. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the City Engineer. An employee in this class may supervise employees in the Engineering Department, organize capital and Local Improvement District projects, works with stormwater permitting and water quality issues on behalf of the city, acts as the Certified Floodplain Manager for the city, manages and designs city hydraulic projects and oversees the financial and organizational needs of the department as assigned. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assists with the direction of the Engineering Department including employee supervision, budget development, control of expenditures, and scheduling of assigned tasks; </li><li>Assists with the development of the Local Improvement District resolutions and ordinances, cost estimates, legal descriptions, and other supporting documentation for management and Council consideration; </li><li>Coordinates resolution of problems with company engineers and representatives; </li><li>Assists the Project/Associate Engineers in the development of designs, plans, specifications and other working papers relating to proposed engineering, construction, maintenance and improvement projects; </li><li>Assists with the design, cost estimating, bidding and construction document preparation, and manages the construction of various public works projects of the City; </li><li>Coordinates accounting and financial requirements and obligations with contractors to finalize projects; </li><li>Reviews and provides engineering comments on subdivision, and use permits; </li><li>Performs subdivision plan review and construction inspection and testing; </li><li>Develops, manages and coordinates material testing services by staff and outside testing laboratories; </li><li>Responds to questions, concerns and complaints from internal and external customers regarding bid processes, program processes and departmental policies and procedures; </li><li>Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions; </li><li>Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems; </li><li>Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas; </li><li>Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner; </li><li>Trains, assigns, prioritizes, supervises, motivates, and evaluates the work of assigned employees. Is responsible for performance base pay program, the setting of goals, monitoring KRA performance, and determining completion of said goals; </li><li>Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other related field; and </li><li>Extensive experience in public works engineering and Water Resources; or </li><li>Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. </li><li>Licensed as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Idaho. </li><li>Possession of a current and valid driver's license. </li></ul>
