<p>Title: Dean of Academics</p> <p>Department/Location: College Administrative Offices, Elsah, IL</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time, 12-month</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>The Dean of Academics serves as the College's chief academic officer, providing leadership and vision for the development and execution of academic programs and policies. As a member of the President's Senior Leadership Team and Deputy to the President when needed, the Dean oversees academic administration, personnel, and facilities, including academic services. Direct reports include the Associate Dean of Academic Assessment and Curriculum, the Assistant Dean of Academic Services, the Faculty Development Director, five Academic Center Directors, and the Executive Assistant. The role requires principled leadership, clear and honest communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with flexibility and sound judgment. We strive to create a?collaborative and inclusive environment?where everyone feels they belong and are valued.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities</p> <p>Administration:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as a strategic partner and collaborator on the College Senior Leadership Team </li><li>Administers and communicates policies and practices, ensuring consistent interpretation and application in alignment with Principia College's mission </li><li>Facilitates the implementation of Strategic Planning that affects the Academic Unit </li><li>Translates the Senior Leadership Team's strategic vision into academic initiatives </li><li>Maintains effective channels of communication with all levels of College academic personnel and leaders of other areas of responsibility </li><li>Works closely with the Institutional Research Officer and the Associate Dean of Academic Assessment and Curriculum (ADAAC) to ensure that decisions are data informed and that the college is in good standing with the Higher Learning Commission </li><li>Supervises the Academic Deans' Office </li><li>Provides strategic oversight of academic budgets and resources, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and overseeing regular monitoring and analysis of budget reports in collaboration with the Senior Director of Business Operations and College Budget Manager </li><li>Oversees the regular monitoring of the academic unit's budget reports with support from the Senior Director of College Business and Operations and College Budget Manager </li><li>Shares budget directives with the Center Directors and faculty so that they may make informed shared governance decisions </li><li>Collaborates with stakeholders to oversee, optimize, and enhance academic facilities </li></ul> <p>Academic Programs:</p> <ul> <li>Communicates the academic vision and oversees programs by fostering a transparent environment for informed faculty decision-making, while establishing and maintaining academic policies aligned with Faculty Handbook processes. </li><li>Supports Center Directors to determine, allocate, and monitor academic workloads in an equitable and sustainable way </li><li>Oversees the support of faculty in their development, monitoring, and assessment of academic programs </li><li>Leads the recruitment, appointment, and separation of academic personnel in collaboration with the College President and Human Resources </li><li>Works collaboratively with Center Directors to ensure effective management, evaluation, and allocation of academic personnel </li><li>Supports Center Directors and Human Resources with active recruitment for open faculty positions </li><li>Addresses topics of current concern before the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, Faculty Council, and other appropriate venues </li><li>Assists advancement and marketing efforts as directed by the College President </li></ul> <p>Student Success:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborates with senior leaders to ensure student success by monitoring retention, persistence, and completion, and developing strategies for strategic enrollment management in partnership with the Student Success Lab and Admissions leadership </li><li>Ensures that the academic services are aligned with strategic enrollment management goals and are responding effectively and strategically to meeting student success needs. </li><li>Supports the ADAAC so that academic assessment systems are properly maintained and improved, including assessment of student learning outcomes and program reviews of academic programs </li><li>Sets academic standing and addresses academic misconduct, including suspending students </li><li>Oversees the facilitation of educational enrichment programs such as, but not limited to, the Annenberg Scholar program, student awards program, etc. </li><li>Keeps current with state and national higher education standards and trends which may have an impact on the College and student learning </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies</p> <p>Principia values the unique strengths each employee brings to their role.
