<p>EDGEWOOD SUMMIT</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Position Title:</p> <p>Assistant Director of Nursing</p> <p>Date: May 15, 2015</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>Arthur B. Hodges Center</p> <p>Job Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>DON</p> <p>Job Code:</p> <p>Job Purpose Summary:</p> <p>Responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of all nursing care prescribed and provided to the resident. Provides prescribed medical treatments and care to the residents in the nursing community by performing the following duties:</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>l. Acts as a liaison between the Director of Nursing and the nursing staff.</p> <ul> <li>Performs roles/responsibilities of Director of Nursing, in the absence of the Director of Nursing. </li><li>Participate in the development and achievement of nursing department goals and objectives. </li><li>Infection Control functions/responsibilities to include tracking and trending infections of facility to be reported at QAPI. </li><li>Restorative Nursing oversight to include required documentation to help residents maintain functional level. </li><li>Collaborate with various departments to promote positive interdepartmental relations. </li><li>Provides services in accordance with nurse practice act, state/federal regulations and nursing community policies and procedures. </li><li>Performs and documents resident assessments on admission and on a continuing basis, as necessary. </li><li>Monitors and documents changes in health status through continuing assessment of the resident. </li><li>Acts in role of Charge Nurse as directed during times of clinical and or staffing needs. </li><li>Reviews/revises assessments and care plans at admission, periodically per regulation, and at change in resident physical, mental or psychosocial condition. </li><li>Observes resident care needs, initiates nursing interventions and evaluates outcomes. Report resident physical and psychosocial status to nursing staff, physicians, resident's families and other departments, as appropriate. </li><li>Completes all medical documentation as required by accepted standards of nursing practice, federal and state guidelines. </li><li>Assists physician as necessary during rounds and examination or treatment of residents. </li><li>Actively participates in the care plan process. </li><li>Supervise and participate in resident programming. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of all resident's private health information. </li><li>Offers emotional support to residents' families, e.g., during admission adjustment, the grief process, coping with chronic illness and working with the cognitively impaired resident and his/her family. </li><li>Acts as a team leader. Directs and supervises tasks of non-professional staff to assure quality of nursing care is maintained. </li><li>Assists with the evaluation of staff. Initiates disciplinary action, as needed. </li><li>Participates in community in-service programs by attending scheduled in-services, suggesting in-service topics, teaching other staff on an informal and formal basis, as required. </li><li>Organizes workday according to accepted routines and prioritizes activities. </li><li>Understands and implements the Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness Plan and evacuation procedures of the community during drills and emergencies. </li><li>Follow all safety, security, infection control, Universal Precautions and Hazardous Material policies and procedures. Performs all tasks to assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and community property. </li><li>Interacts with residents, guests and staff in an atmosphere of hospitality. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualification:</p> <p>To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Educational Requirements and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. </li><li>Must have, as a minimum, one (l) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility. </li><li>Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia. </li><li>Must be able read, write, speak and understand the English language. Basic Life Support Certification (CPR) or willingness to obtain. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge:</p> <p>Must have basic knowledge of computers. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws and state/federal regulations concerning dementia care and skilled nursing care in West Virginia. Knowledge of the concepts of aging and concerns of the elderly. Conduct job duties in accordance with clinical standards of practice and standards. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public. Leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner. Responds promptly to change in workload, adjusting assignments to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency. Verbal ability to express ideas and views effectively. Demonstrates attitude of cooperation and professionalism when working in community.</p> <p>Environmental Adaptability:</p> <p>Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting. May have exposure to unpleasant odors. Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual. Possible exposure to infections, diseases and blood borne pathogens. Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irrational and irritable. May have exposure to residents, family members and staff who are emotionally upset. May need to work beyond a normal working hour day, weekends and holidays, as necessary.</p> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Mobility is necessary to stand, sit, walk, use hands, fingers, stoop and crouch or kneel, to interact with residents, staff and families at least 60 percent of the time. Talking, hearing, smelling, concentration, attention to detail, vision close and distance over 60 percent of the time. Lifting objects up to 10 pounds over 60 percent of the time and over 50 pounds less than 30 percent of the time.</p> <p>Disclaimer:</p> <p>This job description does not state or imply that the duties listed above are the only duties to be performed by the person in this position.
