<p>Overview</p> <p>Thompson Engineering is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to support archaeological investigations, laboratory analysis, and reporting efforts across the Southeastern United States. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of regional cultural heritage.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred </li><li>Proven experience as an Archaeologist or in a similar professional role </li><li>Proficiency with archaeological field and laboratory tools and equipment </li><li>Strong knowledge of archaeological principles, theories, methods, and practices </li><li>Experience conducting archaeological artifact analysis </li><li>Familiarity with cultural heritage legislation and compliance requirements </li><li>Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills </li><li>Experience in Southeastern archaeology required or strongly preferred </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Work independently and collaboratively with the Principal Archaeologist to prepare high-quality technical reports </li><li>Prepare project-related materials (documents, photographs, artifacts, and digital records) for long-term curation </li><li>Assist field archaeologists as needed during field investigations </li><li>Conduct laboratory analysis of archaeological artifacts, including classification, analysis, and preservation using established methodologies </li><li>Establish and maintain a type/reference collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts common to regional archaeological sites </li><li>Maintain the archaeological site database (State Site Files), including submitting corrections and updates to previously recorded sites </li></ul>
