Conducts analysis on individual lawsuits regarding exposure of the Department. Advises and counsels administrators of the Department on a wide range of legal issues.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Serves as Assistant General Counsel. </li><li>Represents the Department as lead counsel in administrative hearings. </li><li>Conducts analysis on individual lawsuits regarding exposure of the Department. </li><li>Advises and counsels administrators of the Department on a wide variety of legal issues. </li><li>Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires graduation from a recognized school of law. </li><li>Requires possession of a license to practice law in Illinois. </li><li>Requires three (3) years of experience in the practice of law. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Three (3) years of civil litigation experience in federal and state courts or administrative tribunals, including drafting, reviewing, and editing pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents and engaging in motion practice. </li><li>Three (3) years of professional experience managing or conducting written and oral discovery for civil litigation in federal or state court. </li><li>Three (3) years of professional experience providing legal advice to management in a governmental, healthcare, educational, or social services organization. </li><li>Three (3) years of professional experience assessing litigation risk, evaluating settlement demands, and advising clients on settlement. </li><li>Three (3) years of professional experience trying cases or conducting contested evidentiary hearings before a trial court or administrative tribunal. </li><li>Three (3) years of professional experience providing legal advice on constitutional law issues and/or statutory or common-law immunities. </li></ul> <p>Conditions of Employment</p> <ul> <li>Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties. </li><li>Requires the ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed. </li><li>All conditions of employment listed are incorporated and related to any of the job duties as listed in the job description. </li></ul> <p>Work Hours: Mon - Fri, 8:30am - 5:00pm; 1-hour unpaid lunch</p> <p>Headquarter Location: 69 W Washington St, Chicago, Illinois, 60602</p> <p>Office of General Counsel</p> <p>Division of Litigation</p> <p>Work County: Cook</p> <p>Agency Contact: DHS.HiringUnit@illinois.gov</p> <p>Posting Group: Leadership & Management; Legal, Audit & Compliance; Social Services</p> <p>About the Agency:</p> <p>The Illinois Department of Human Services uplifts individuals and communities across Illinois.
