<p>The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking a Part-time Instructor to teach one 4-credit section(s) of Chinese III (CHI 201) in the fall 2025 semester, which begins on August 25, 2025 (appointment begins on August 18, 2025). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment.</p> <p>Chinese III (CHI 201); 4 credits</p> <p>Continuing proficiency-based course which refines and expands previously acquired linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Chinese.</p> <p>The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per credit rate history within the hiring department.</p> <p>All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree or higher in Foreign Language Education or related field. </li><li>Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and in English. </li><li>At least 5 years in teaching 1st and/or 2nd year Chinese as a foreign language to English speakers. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>It is understood that teaching assignments may include:</p> <ul> <li>Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. </li><li>Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. </li><li>Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments. </li><li>Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week. </li><li>Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class. </li><li>Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. </li><li>Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes. </li><li>Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. </li><li>Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. </li><li>Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. </li><li>Completing all other course related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors. </li><li>Building a positive rapport with the students and faculty. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>For full consideration, in addition to completing an online application, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae/resume, and list of names of three references at www.sujobopps.com.</p>
