<p>Choate Rosemary Hall has an opening for a Building Maintenance Technician. This role is responsible for providing general repair and maintenance services to the Choate Rosemary Hall community. This role is a full-time position, benefit eligible position.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Performs routine general maintenance to include but not limited to: interior and exterior painting, interior and exterior maintenance and general repairs; including campus roofing and gutter systems, maintenance and repair to building ceilings, walls, doors, windows, and floors. </li><li>Responsible for completing assigned work orders. </li><li>Provide services necessary for seasonal turnover of dormitories and faculty residences to prepare for the opening of school and new employee arrivals/move-ins. </li><li>Provide services that meet building codes and generally accepted construction standards. </li><li>Participates in on-call rotation; provides support and service for school events that may include evening and weekend hours. </li><li>Follows all applicable OSHA and NFPA codes/standards in the shop and on campus. (i.e. confined space entry, ladder safety, etc.). </li><li>Maintains shop and all work areas in a neat and orderly manner. </li><li>Provide maintenance of campus roofing and gutter systems. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow all applicable safety guidelines. </li></ul> <p>SECONDARY DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Assist with emergency preparedness for storms, building damage prevention, and other possible events that may impact campus buildings. </li><li>Participate in the 24/7 rotational on call program. Report when available and called on for emergency service that may include evening and weekend hours. </li><li>Participate in continuing education to improve knowledge base. </li><li>Assist with the overseeing activities of outside contractors. </li><li>Assist with the operation of the lock shop. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Education: High school degree or equivalent. Additional trade school or continuing education preferred.</p> <p>Prior experience: 1 year experience in a maintenance trade.</p> <p>Licenses & Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license.</p> <p>Specialized training in:</p> <ul> <li>Understanding of OSHA General Industry standards. 30-hour certification or equivalent preferred. </li><li>Knowledge and ability to operate all large equipment typically found in a complete carpentry shop such as table saw, band saw, panel saw, drill press etc. </li></ul> <p>Other Key Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Accountability, honesty, integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality, and the ability to avoid conflict of interest situations. </li><li>Work with minimal supervision. </li><li>Strong customer service attitude with both internal and external contacts. </li><li>Communication skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Shall have general knowledge of and understand federal, state and local regulations as related to the building trade. </li><li>Ability to read and understand blueprints. </li><li>Visual and auditory acuity required in order to have complete awareness of surroundings and to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts. </li><li>Sound judgment, able to remain cool under pressure. </li><li>Proficient use in operating a computer. </li><li>Planning/organizing-plans work activities and uses time efficiently. </li><li>Quality control-demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. </li></ul>
