<p>This role serves as an accountant position within the Financial Reporting Team. The individual in this role will apply their accounting experience to support the finance division in a broad range of activities, including financial reporting, regulatory compliance and accounting for insurance-specific transactions. This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to the accuracy and integrity of financial statements and regulatory and compliance filings, while working closely with other members of the Financial Reporting & Analysis teams and having exposure to various finance leadership levels and other business functions.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure compliance with all state regulatory reporting requirements, including state premium tax returns, state assessments, escheats and various data calls (e.g., NCCI), and maintain knowledge of any changes in reporting requirements </li><li>Provide support for independent audits, responding to audit requests and ensuring timely submission of required documentation </li><li>Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, propose solutions and implement corrections as needed </li><li>Manage general ledger recordkeeping and participate in the month-end closing process by preparing, posting and reviewing monthly journal entries, reconciling and analyzing accounts, or coordinating the reconciliation of accounts to the general ledger </li><li>Handle various accounting transactions, entries and reporting as assigned, which may include fixed assets, reinsurance, expense accruals, and/or taxes </li><li>Research basic accounting issues and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and state requirements </li><li>Support the preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and other financial reporting </li><li>Assist in preparing quarterly and annual statement schedules according to regulatory requirements, with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness </li><li>Cross-train on various functions within the financial reporting team and participate in special projects and other duties as assigned </li><li>Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of internal procedures and process improvements, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency </li><li>Take initiative in training and development opportunities, enhancing expertise in accounting and compliance with a focus on insurance industry practices, contributing to continuous personal and team improvement </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>ESSENTIAL:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance desired, commensurate experience to be considered </li><li>Minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting or compliance role with experience working within a general ledger system desired </li><li>Knowledge of accounting principles, regulatory practices, and internal controls over financial reporting </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills </li><li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and deadlines </li><li>Ability to learn new skills and tasks quickly and apply knowledge, as well as appropriate judgement </li><li>Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and data integrity </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel/MS Teams </li><li>Desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, dynamic environment </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance desired, commensurate experience to be considered </li><li>Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other professional designation desired </li><li>3+ years related experience required </li><li>Insurance industry experience preferred </li></ul> <p>At SECURA, we are transforming the insurance experience by putting authenticity at the forefront of everything we do.
