<p>The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.</p> <p>The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Associate Records Officer in the Bureau of Human Capital to oversee the Records and Verification Unit. This unit maintains personnel records for approximately 18,000 employees. It performs filing, record retrieval, archiving, and other related tasks. The selected candidate will provide supervision and guidance for the members of this unit and ensure processes are streamlined. The chosen candidate will verify release authorizations, maintain and enforce high standards of confidentiality, liaise with stakeholders, and perform other related tasks. NOTICE: This position may require frequent standing and walking. Certain tasks (e.g., filing and archiving) may require the candidate to lift, move, and carry objects or materials (e.g., boxes of folders) of light to moderate weight.</p> <p>ASSOCIATE PUBLIC RECORDS OFFIC - 60217</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>A master's degree from an accredited college in Library Science, Archival Science, American History, Political Science or a related area, plus two years of full-time experience in archival or library science, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity of incumbents performing at a professional level; or</p> </li><li> <p>Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have a master's degree from an accredited college and the one year of supervisory experience as described in "1" above.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Strong communication skills. - Customer service oriented. - Proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel). - Strong decision-maker. </li></ul> <p>55a Program</p> <p>This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
