<p>2025 City of Jonesboro</p> <p>Park Ranger</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Exempt: No</p> <p>Department: Code Enforcement</p> <p>Reports To: Director of Code Enforcement</p> <p>Location: City Parks, Jonesboro AR</p> <p>Date Prepared: January 1, 2025</p> <p>Date Revised:</p> <p>Safety Sensitive: This position is designated as safety/security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening.</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION</p> <p>This safety sensitive position (SS) is responsible for actively supporting and upholding the City's values by promoting quality recreational experiences through ambassadorship, outreach, education, and enforcement. Park Rangers provide security by patrolling and monitoring activities, assessing situations, and resolving issues or requesting police assistance in response to escalating situations as necessary within urban areas, community centers, parks, and sports complexes.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Maintain a visible presence and conduct proactive patrols in city parks, community centers, pools, and sports complexes. </li><li>Preserve and protect park property and ensure proper use of park equipment and resources. </li><li>Enforce Park rules and city ordinances and ensure pet compliance regulations. </li><li>Provide customer service by responding to public inquiries and educating visitors about the history of city parks. </li><li>Assist with crowd control and logistics during public events and report vandalism, maintenance issues, and unsafe conditions. </li><li>Respond to health-related emergencies and provide basic emergency support. </li><li>Support city staff during routine operations and special projects. </li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with park visitors and staff, and complete daily logs and reports. </li><li>Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions. </li><li>Prepare the required paperwork for court cases and testify in court when required. </li><li>Provide a positive public image when engaging with visitors to the City's parks system. </li><li>Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be 21 years of age and able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>COMMUNICATION SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.</p> <p>CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
