This is more than a job - it's a mission to ensure access to care, promote recovery, and advocate for those who need it most.</p> <p>About the Role:</p> <p>As a Peer Recovery Specialist, you will bring your lived experience with substance use recovery, mental health challenges, or homelessness to engage individuals living on the streets, in encampments, and shelters across Baltimore. You will serve as a trusted support, connecting clients to healthcare, housing, and behavioral health services, while promoting harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, your role is critical in reducing barriers and advocating for client needs.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Engage individuals experiencing homelessness to build trust and connect them to essential services.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide one-on-one peer support, sharing your recovery journey to inspire others.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate access to behavioral health treatment, housing, and harm reduction supplies like naloxone kits.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate closely with medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, and case managers to ensure holistic care.</p> </li><li> <p>Advocate for clients' rights and self-determination within health and social service systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and reflective practice to enhance your skills.</p> </li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For:</p> <ul> <li> <p>High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (required).</p> </li><li> <p>Lived experience with recovery from substance use, mental health challenges, or homelessness, with a demonstrated ability to support others.</p> </li><li> <p>Three years of peer recovery service experience, preferably with at least one year in a healthcare or community setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Bilingual (Spanish-English) speakers are highly preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with Baltimore City and local service providers.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, crisis de-escalation, and collaboration skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work in dynamic environments, including street-based settings.</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Maryland driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work use.</p> </li></ul> <p>Why Join Us?</p> <p>At Health Care for the Homeless, we believe in dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion, and balance.
