<p>The Licensed Practical Nurse positions are located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center within Nursing Services, Primary Care Specialty Services. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a very wide range of patient personal care, support diagnostic services, and chart activities on a regular and continual basis on a surgical, medical, rehabilitation, psychiatric, or long-term care ward or clinic.</p> <p>Under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN), the licensed practical nurse (LPN) functions as a member of the nursing team and assists the RN in the care of patients in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness. The LPN delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies.</p> <p>Major duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Receives patients scheduled for the various clinics or arriving for other ambulatory care. </li><li>Assists patients with getting on and off examination tables. </li><li>Escorts ambulatory patients and transports patients via litter or wheelchair when required. </li><li>Ensures all specimens are labeled according to hospital policy. </li><li>Sets up examination room by providing necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring clinic area and equipment is aseptically clean and in order, and assures patient charts and necessary information is available. </li><li>Assists providers and nurses by supplying needed equipment, providing information such as, vital signs, weight, observations, and information obtained from patient. </li><li>Assures smooth clinic operations by directing the patient to the appropriate area. </li><li>Inventories, orders, and restocks needed linens and supplies. Reports defective equipment. Detects and reports unsafe work conditions. </li><li>Uses correct protective personal equipment (PPE) and standard precautions in all areas of patient care. </li><li>Maintains order and cleanliness in storage and work areas. </li><li>Performs electrocardiograms (EKGs), places patient on a life pack and completes glucometer checks on patient. </li><li>Administers prescribed medications per policy. </li><li>Provides intravenous (IV) therapy under the supervision of the registered nurse, per policy. </li><li>Applies infection control measures appropriately in delivering care. </li><li>Communicates with team members regarding patient care. </li><li>Adheres to ethical and principles and standards in delivering care. </li><li>Enters information into patients' records/charts. </li><li>Applies knowledge and skill core competencies of the assigned unit to patient care. </li><li>Uses effective communication skills with co-workers to achieve desired patient outcomes. </li><li>Identifies patient and family learning needs, educates the patient/family member(s) according to the patient education record, and documents the evaluation of learning. </li><li>Instructs the patient and family on his/her role in various procedures performed. </li><li>Explains how equipment will be used. </li><li>Reinforces information previously supplied by the physician or nurse. </li><li>Informs nurse care manager of obstacles to learning that will require enhancement. </li><li>Demonstrates mandatory and clinical competencies of the position. </li><li>Administers life support measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when required. </li><li>Performs messenger duties for Primary Care/Primary Care Specialty Services, as needed, to obtain STAT meds, equipment, specimens, etc. </li><li>Documents procedures performed and results. </li><li>Checks to see that patients are present for appointment. </li><li>Prepares patient for treatment and examination and positions them properly on examination table or chair. </li><li>Assures privacy when exposure is necessary for observation/treatment by the provider. </li><li>Observes patient for any immediate needs and gives prompt attention or seeks help, as necessary. </li><li>Participates in nursing in-service educational programs. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: https://youtube.com/embed/Ae85IP1Oiz4</p> <p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional</p> <p>Work Schedule: 7:45am-4:15pm, Monday-Friday</p> <p>Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
