<ul> <li>This position works mainly on the weekends and can be anywhere from 4-29 hours per month depending on upcoming events* </li></ul> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Maintain order and decorum when working at various types of functions, while being mindful of the best interest of public safety, the venue you are assigned to, your safety and the protocols/procedures of the Steele County Special Deputy Unit.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Facility Requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain building or property security as specified by the venue protocols.</p> </li><li> <p>Be prepared for medical emergencies - locate AED and First Aid Supplies</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarize yourself with unoccupied areas within the facility.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain access to all emergency exits.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor occupancy limits as posted.</p> </li><li> <p>Evacuate facility when requested to do so.</p> </li><li> <p>Crowd Control</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain verbal and visual contact with those in attendance at your assignment in a positive and productive manner while still preserving your authority.</p> </li><li> <p>Detain individuals for possible arrest when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Shut down entertainment when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Cease the serving of alcohol according to state and local statutes.</p> </li><li> <p>ID Checks</p> </li><li> <p>Verify those in attendance are of legal age for alcohol consumption and tobacco usage.</p> </li><li> <p>Restrict obviously intoxicated patrons from further alcohol consumption.</p> </li><li> <p>Look for any activity (illegal, etc.) not normally conducted at that facility.</p> </li><li> <p>Emergency Scenes</p> </li><li> <p>Provide assistance to licensed law enforcement at crime scenes and accidents by maintaining perimeters.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide assistance during natural disasters.</p> </li><li> <p>Traffic Control</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with traffic control at parades and emergencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Guard Duty</p> </li><li> <p>Guard individuals at medical facilities until they are to be incarcerated or released.</p> </li><li> <p>Judgment</p> </li><li> <p>Exercise the ability to make timely judgments that are within the best interest of public safety, the venue you are assigned to, your safety and of the Steele County Sheriff's Office.</p> </li><li> <p>Special Deputies are not to intervene in the function of licensed law enforcement officers unless the responding officer requests assistance.</p> </li><li> <p>All judgments must be made within the established policies, procedures, and practices of the Special Deputy unit and the Steele County Sheriff's Office.</p> </li><li> <p>Expectations</p> </li><li> <p>Monthly meeting attendance.</p> </li><li> <p>Participation in mandatory training dates. (3 or 4 annually)</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain First Aid and CPR/AED Certification.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in two unpaid Civic Events per year.</p> </li><li> <p>Uniform/Equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a clean and professional uniform with approved fittings and identification only.</p> </li></ul> <p>Successful candidates will have:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Ability to pass background check </li><li>The ability to pass various trainings and certifications annually </li></ul> <p>Essential Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Dealing tactfully but firmly with offenders, suspects, and witnesses. </li><li>Communication skills in dealing with the general public, community groups, business representatives, other county employees or representatives from other law enforcement agencies. </li><li>Expressing self clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. </li></ul> <p>Physical Job Requirements (Percentage of Time)</p> <p>Category: Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job.</p> <ul> <li>Stand: continuously (66-100%) </li><li>Walk: continuously (66-100%) </li><li>Sit: frequently (34-66%) </li><li>Use of hands: continuously (66-100%) </li><li>Reach with hands & arms: occasionally (1-33%) </li><li>Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: occasionally (1-33%) </li><li>Talk or hear: continuously (66-100%) </li><li>Taste or smell: frequently (34-66%) </li><li>Lift & carry: up to 25 pounds (66-100%), up to 50 pounds (34-66%), up to 100 pounds occasionally (1-33%) </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Driving in extreme weather conditions, working around traffic on roadways; working under time pressure constraints, stress and risks associated with potential life threatening situations.
