<p>Position Overview</p> <p>The City of Wauwatosa Department of Public Works is hiring for an Electrical Technician! This position performs skilled electrical work that involves the maintenance, repair, and installation of street lighting systems, traffic signal systems, motors, controls, and other related electrical equipment.</p> <p>The salary range is $34.94 - $44.65 per hour, with starting pay determined on qualifications and professional experience. We are also offering a sign on bonus of $2,500 for this Electrical Technician opening. The City of Wauwatosa provides an excellent benefits package, on-site employee health clinic, on-site fitness centers, paid parental leave, meaningful work, and more! Employees will be automatically enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), a pension plan to help provide for financial security during retirement, which consists of employer and employee required contributions.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Locate, dig by hand and equipment and repair faulted street light cables. </li><li>Accurately troubleshoot HID and LED street lighting fixtures and components. </li><li>Install various sizes of concrete and aluminum light poles both direct buried and base mounted. </li><li>Record and track street lighting substation resistance readings. </li><li>Perform maintenance on high voltage electrical street lighting substations and components. </li><li>Locate underground cables for Digger's Hotline. </li><li>Read and interpret plans, drawings, as-builts and schematics. </li><li>Install and perform maintenance on traffic signal control systems. </li><li>Install and maintain motors, motor controllers, generators and other related electrical equipment in various municipal buildings. </li><li>Perform all electrical work in accordance with the National Electrical code. </li><li>Occasionally assist with emergency snow removal operations as needed. </li><li>Rotating on call responding to emergencies outside of normal business hours, weekends and holidays. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Education and Experience Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Three years' experience as an electrician. </li><li>Three years' experience in street lighting and traffic control systems strongly preferred. </li><li>Experience operating a derrick/auger truck in relation to the installation and removal of light poles. </li><li>Experience in safe operation of aerial lift trucks. </li><li>Experience in locating faulted underground electrical cables and the operation of the equipment involved. </li><li>Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic signal systems and equipment. </li><li>Experience with Personal Protective Safety procedures when working around live high voltage Electrical equipment </li></ul> <p>Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Valid WI Driver License. </li><li>A Class B CDL must be obtained within one year of employment. That time frame may be extended depending on the availability of internal training resources. </li><li>Journeyman Electrician License preferred. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications</p> <p>In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential.</p> <ul> <li>Must have completed courses related to electrical theory and electrical code. </li><li>Must be able to meet physical requirements of the job: frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move items up to or in excess of 50 pounds. </li><li>Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. </li><li>Ability to work at various heights. </li><li>Proficient electrical knowledge required to solve electrical maintenance problems; working knowledge of the National Electrical Code. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, schematics and specifications of electrical installations. </li></ul> <p>In evaluating candidates for this position, The City of Wauwatosa may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, grip, feel, push and pull. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to or in excess of 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>Must possess ability to climb ladders, poles and towers, and work at great heights above ground and the physical stamina to perform sustained manual work for extended periods of time.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
