<p>Under general supervision, this position plans, instructs, and supervises a variety of recreational programs, including youth sports, therapeutic activities, swimming, and enrichment classes.</p> <ul> <li>This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Town's policies* </li></ul> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and the Town may change these duties at any time.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develops and implements structured lesson plans, practices and activities for youth sports, enrichment classes, therapeutic recreation, and other recreational programs; designs programs to meet age-appropriate skill levels and individual participant needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Designs inclusive programming by creating universally accessible lesson plans and accommodating special requests, including one-on-one support for participants with disabilities and seniors in therapeutic recreation.</p> </li><li> <p>Leads and supervises assistant coaches, volunteers, and program participants, providing training and performance feedback and scheduling staff for events, practices, and clean-up tasks.</p> </li><li> <p>Conducts regular safety checks, including equipment and environment setup before and after activities; schedules staff to accommodate proper set-up and clean-up.</p> </li><li> <p>Fosters an inclusive, supportive, and positive environment, models sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience.</p> </li><li> <p>Acts as the main point of contact between participants, parents, and departmental staff. Communicates program details, schedules, updates, and provides participants' progress to all stakeholders.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensurescompliance with health, safety, and sanitation guidelines; responds to emergency situations, provides first aid, and completes required incident reports when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors and evaluate program effectiveness, makes necessary adjustments to meet quality standards; provides feedback to participants and works with Recreation Coordinators to improve program offerings.</p> </li><li> <p>Leads or participates in training sessions, certifications (such as CPR, First Aid, and AED), and coaching workshops to maintain and improve professional standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with managing program records, attendance, and necessary documentation; assists in inventory management, including tracking equipment and materials needed for programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in planning and executing events, including practices, competitions, and seasonal activities, ensuring smooth coordination with staff and external partners.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other related duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.</p> <p>Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.</p> <p>Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of experience teaching, coaching, or recreational programming and the ability to demonstrate sport-specific skills and performance techniques.</p> <p>Experience in youth sports, aquatics, or therapeutic recreation is preferred.</p> <p>Possession of or the ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within thirty (30) days of hire.</p> <p>Possession of or the ability to obtain an AED certification within ninety (90) days of hire.</p> <p>Minimum, Additional Qualification - Sports Coaches</p> <ul> <li>Completion of concussion recognition training within ninety (90) days of hire and the ability to renew annually. </li></ul> <p>Employment Standards</p> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of coaching techniques, safety practices, and recreational programming.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in verbal and written communication.</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in the use of computers and relevant software for communication and program management.</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in the supervision of program participants.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including children, parents, and staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to organize and teach program curriculum in a progression allowing learning and growth from program participants.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to demonstrate and explain activities through verbal and physical instruction.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to perform rescues, administer first aid, and remain attentive during aquatics activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to provide a positive, enthusiastic customer service attitude towards all patrons.?</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to handle incidents and confrontations in a recreation facility.?</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to collaborate across a range of recreational programs and support the mission of the Division.?</p> </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>The working conditions described below are representative of those an employee generally encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with a disability to perform the essential duties.</p> <p>Tools & Equipment </p> <p>Requires frequent use of general supplies and program and classroom equipment including but not limited to items such as arts and crafts materials, games, scoreboards, whistles, various sports gear and specialized equipment needed for therapeutic recreation and/or adaptive activities.</p> <p>Physical Demands </p> <p>Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision. Requires hearing abilities necessary to maintain a safe, responsive environment, particularly in outdoor or noisy recreational settings.</p> <p>Environment </p> <p>Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled environment or outdoors. Employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme.
