<p>Special Job Title for Post: SY 25-26 High School Special Education ILP/Autism Teacher - LOWER SCHOOL ACADEMY, LAWRENCE HIGH SCHOOL</p> <p>Organization: Lawrence Public Schools</p> <p>Job Title: Special Education Teacher</p> <p>Location: Lower School Academy at Lawrence High School</p> <p>Who Are We?</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is an urban district, located 30 miles north of Boston, serving more than 13,000 students. More than 70% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language. We are committed to ensuring that our students, who have for too long been under-served, are provided with a high-quality, free, public education at their local, district schools.</p> <p>The Lower School Academy at Lawrence High School serves students who are making the transition from a variety of public and private middle schools in the City of Lawrence. We recognize the importance of freshman year as a launching point to a high school career where students are supported in reaching their highest academic and extracurricular potentials.</p> <p>Lawrence High School is seeking a Special Education Teacher to lead a substantially separate Individual Learning Plan (ILP)/Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classroom for high school students in grades 9-12.</p> <p>Core Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Regular instruction and support for students in a single, inclusive classroom that supports the development of the whole child</p> <p>Management of students and a staff of paraprofessionals in substantially separate classroom setting for students on the Autism spectrum</p> <p>Maintaining and adhering to individualized education plans, including supporting students, staff and families in carrying out the plan and regularly attending meetings to monitor progress and prescribe future actions</p> <p>Teaching and supporting a high-quality curriculum to meet IEP goals and support student growth academically socially and emotionally, including regular modification of curricular materials to support appropriate differentiation for students</p> <p>Application of diverse, proactive classroom management system that reflects appropriate knowledge of positive behavior modification strategies, collection and analyses of appropriate behavioral data, and evidence of collaboration with stakeholders that supports students on the Autism spectrum</p> <p>Regular participation in collaborative sessions and professional development that support individual, school and student/family growth</p> <p>Regular, proactive collaboration with students' families to provide robust support for student growth and progress towards IEP goals</p> <p>Direct support of students' growth toward increasing levels of inclusion in the general education classroom</p> <p>Communicate regularly with parents</p> <p>Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations</p> <p>Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate interventions and recommendations</p> <p>Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities</p> <p>Perform related duties as required by the building Principal and the Special Education Zone Director</p> <p>Desired Skills and Characteristics:</p> <p>Driving desire to disrupt inequity and improve outcomes for all students</p> <p>Commitment to the academic and personal success of Lawrence Public Schools' students and families</p> <p>Proven experience supporting English Language Learners</p> <p>Ability to take initiative and succeed in a fast-paced school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges</p> <p>Demonstrated capacity to create and maintain a positive learning environment in which students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected and utilized.</p> <p>Will to improve practice by taking and implementing frequent feedback</p> <p>Humility and a good sense of humor</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred; appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure required-this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy - Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).</p> <p>Teachers should hold an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement.</p> <p>A minimum of two years teaching experience in a school setting serving a similar demographic preferred, but not required.</p> <p>Citizenship, residency or work visa required.</p> <p>Other: Benefits in accordance with the Lawrence Public Schools guidelines</p> <p>EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
