<p>Are you a detail-oriented financial professional with a passion for public service? The State of Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a highly skilled Accountant II to join our team.</p> <p>The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) provides high-quality administrative support to state agencies, ensuring efficient and effective management of resources. Our services include human resources, general services, financial management, procurement, fleet management, and print services. DAS plays a critical role in enabling state government to function smoothly and deliver services to the citizens of Iowa.</p> <p>As an Accountant in our team, you'll play a vital role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting critical infrastructure initiatives. Your day-to-day work will help keep our programs running smoothly and transparently. Here's how you'll make an impact:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Manage Federal and State Grant Funds- Oversee the drawdown, tracking, and reconciliation of Federal and State grants to ensure accurate and timely reporting.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and Report SLFRF Activity- Track and report State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) activity on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure Financial Accuracy and Compliance- Prepare journal entries, review and pre-audit claims to verify compliance with State and Federal laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and internal policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Support Infrastructure Budgeting and Reporting- Assist in the bi-annual development and entry of infrastructure budgets. Prepare year-end infrastructure reports, including retainage and building depreciation.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct Financial Analysis for Reporting- Analyze financial data for annual audits, GAAP reporting, and the Statewide Cost Allocation Plan (SWCAP).</p> </li><li> <p>Respond to Auditor Requests- Collaborate with auditors by providing accurate and timely information related to infrastructure finances.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform Account Reconciliations- Analyze monthly financial data to complete account reconciliations and ensure accurate records.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide Insights and Recommendations- Interpret and analyze regulations, financial data, and program effectiveness to offer informed recommendations to leadership.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate Financial Information- Prepare and present clear, concise audit reports and financial summaries, both verbally and in writing.</p> </li></ul> <p>Our Ideal Candidate: </p> <ul> <li>In-Person Requirement: This position requires in-person attendance through a six-month probationary training period, with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement thereafter. </li><li>Financial Expertise: Extensive experience knowledge of accounting theory and practice, generally accepted accounting principles </li><li>Collaborative Skills: Proven experience working on projects with team members, demonstrating strong collaboration skills. </li><li>Analytical Ability: Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and experience in reconciliation. </li><li>Attention to Detail: Extremely detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in all financial tasks. </li><li>Finance Background: A solid background in compliance and finance is essential for success in this role. </li><li>Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate and manage effectively at all organizational levels. </li><li>Problem-Solving Aptitude: Strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions. </li><li>Integrity and Dependability: High level of integrity, dependability, and a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. </li></ul> <p>At the State of Iowa, we are committed to your well-being. As a valued team member, you'll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Paid Time Off: Enjoy vacation, paid holidays, and sick leave with no limits on sick leave accrual. </li><li>Great Benefits: Excellent Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Options. </li><li>Retirement Plan: IPERS Retirement package and an option for a deferred compensation plan. </li><li>Flexibility: Flexible Spending Accounts (medical and dependent care) </li><li>Life Insurance: Free Life Insurance. </li><li>Support: Employee Assistance Programs and Employee Discount Programs. </li></ul> <p>To learn more about the benefits of working with the State of Iowa, visit our benefits webpage.</p> <p>Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a minimum of twelve semester hours (or its equivalent) in accounting, business administration or finance; course work and eighteen months of responsible experience in accounting, accounts examination or verification, budgeting or closely related fiscal experience with a governmental agency, public accounting firm, or private industry;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>substitution of work experience in the public or private sector which entailed accounting, auditing, budgeting, assessment or computation of taxes, or closely related financial functions (e.g., treasurer, comptroller, accountant, auditor, budget analyst, etc.) on a year-for-year basis for the required education (thirty semester or equivalent hours equal one year);</p> <p>OR</p> <p>substitution of successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting for the required education;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>any combination of qualifying post high school level education and experience which totals five and one-half years;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>employees with current continuous experience in the state service that includes the equivalent of six months of full-time experience as an Accounting Technician 2 shall be considered as qualifying;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>substituting graduate level course work in accounting, business administration, or finance for each year of the required experience on the basis that satisfactory completion of 30 semester or equivalent hours of graduate level course work is equivalent to one year of experience;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>employees with current continuous experience in the state service that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full-time experience as an Accounting Technician 1 shall be considered as qualifying;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Certified Public Accountants may qualify with six months of the required experience;</p> <p>OR</p> <p>employees with current continuous experience in the state classified service that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time experience as an Accountant/Auditor 1, six months of full-time experience as an Accounting Technician 3, or twenty-four months of full-time experience as an Accounting Technician 2 shall be considered as qualifying.</p> <p>For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.</p>
