<p>Job Title: Laboratory Group Leader and InstructorJob Description</p> <p>We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Group Leader and Instructor to provide professional-level technical support in a large university laboratory setting. The role involves leading and instructing laboratory technicians, assistants, and students while applying scientific research methods and techniques.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Function as the group leader and instructor for laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, and students in a large university laboratory. </li><li>Provide professional-level laboratory technical support, applying scientific research and clinical methods. </li><li>Perform and oversee multistage purifications, nucleic acid extractions, assays, and tests. </li><li>Prepare tissues, chemicals, and specimens for testing, including the breeding of small animals if necessary. </li><li>Log and enter computer records of sample identity and processing data. </li><li>Inventory, store, and track extracted samples in a -80 degrees centigrade freezer storage system. </li><li>Retrieve and prepare stored samples for distribution to investigators, maintaining a computer log of samples. </li><li>Perform quality control and assurance checks as samples are processed, investigating sample discrepancy problems. </li><li>Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and prepare reagents and solutions. </li><li>Assist with maintaining supplies and materials, and cross-train in cell culture activities. </li><li>Order supplies, interface with service personnel for instrumentation, and sign off on service work performed. </li><li>Act as a contributing author on progress reports and manuscripts. </li><li>Respond to equipment operation failures, such as freezer alarms, by notifying supervisors and executing relocation and repair plans. </li><li>Operate robotic systems for high-throughput analysis and perform basic molecular biology assays, including DNA/RNA isolation and PCR. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, preferably Biology. </li><li>Academic lab experience, including courses and labs related to biology. </li><li>Proficiency in manual or automated pipetting, single or multichannel. </li><li>At least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty for high complexity testing. </li><li>Experience in DNA and/or biochemical extraction, blood cell separation, and tissue culture. </li><li>Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, and database systems. </li><li>Ability to work autonomously and under pressure. </li><li>Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds. </li><li>Operate and maintain sophisticated equipment. </li><li>Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. </li><li>Effective communication skills and participation in occupational health and safety programs. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in a biological science. </li><li>Transcript required if the academic major is not specified. </li><li>32 hours of science with 16 for chemistry and 16 for biology; 3 hours of mathematics. </li><li>Degrees from outside of the United States require a credential equivalency evaluation from NACES or AICE. </li><li>Prefer experience handling biological samples and biohazardous materials. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The work involves biobanking and bioprocessing activities in a laboratory setting.
