The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B).</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor faculty position in the School of Accountancy to begin in August 2026. The initial appointment is for a period of one year. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. We are a multi-site university; therefore, the candidate may be required to teach at the Hattiesburg campus and the Gulf Park campus (Long Beach, MS), and/or teach online/hybrid courses using various forms of technology.</p> <p>Primary Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Duties and responsibilities of this position include excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and service to the School of Accountancy, College of Business and Economic Development, the university, and the academy. Teaching duties will be in our bachelor's in accounting, Master of Professional Accountancy, and/or Master of Business Administration programs based on need. All areas of teaching focus will be considered, but our greatest needs are in the areas of taxation, financial accounting, and managerial/cost accounting. Classes will be assigned based on the need of the School of Accountancy. Classes may be on-campus, online, or hybrid. </li><li>The individual selected must demonstrate a collegial and team-oriented approach to research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate must be devoted to teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate levels and must demonstrate a commitment to student success. All faculty are also required to be actively engaged in our assurance of learning processes. </li><li>The School of Accountancy holds separate AACSB accreditation. All faculty in the school are required to contribute to the maintenance of separate AACSB accreditation. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Master's degree in Accounting; MBA with 18 graduate credit hours in Accounting; or Juris Doctorate with graduate degree in taxation (L.L.M or MST)</p> <p>Eighteen graduate level hours in accounting</p> <p>Meet the requirements of a scholarly academic, practice academic, scholarly practitioner, or instructional practitioner in accounting for AACSB accreditation purposes</p> <p>For candidates with prior employment in higher education, evidence of excellence in collegiate teaching and institutional/professional service is required</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to teach effectively (both online and in traditional settings) at the university level. </li><li>Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Proven track record of innovative teaching practices and research impact. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges. </li><li>Knowledge of the field of accounting and taxation. </li><li>The ability to navigate and use learning management systems for teaching, such as Canvas, as well as other technological communications (Microsoft Office Suite). </li><li>Proficiency in teaching strategies and techniques for all student populations. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>An earned doctorate (or ABD*) in Accounting or other appropriate related field from an AACSB accredited institution</p> <p>Experience in public or corporate accounting</p> <p>Professional certification (CPA, CMA etc.)</p> <p>Experience in teaching campus, hybrid, and online classes</p> <p>ABD applicants must have completed all doctoral course requirements and qualifying exams and must persuasively demonstrate that all degree requirements will be completed before the start of the position.</p> <p>The School of Accountancy</p> <p>The School of Accountancy is separately accredited by AACSB and offers undergraduate and master degrees with an extensive network of alumni in local, state, and federal service. We serve accounting majors on both the Hattiesburg and the Gulf Park campuses.
