<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Under general supervision,</p> <ul> <li>Performs duties in the repair/maintenance of vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and buses belonging to the agency and other city, county, and state agencies. </li><li>Inspects gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, heavy truck, heavy equipment, and buses. </li><li>Performs expert level repair/maintenance on vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and buses. </li><li>Makes inspections to ensure quality of work performed and corrects any problems. </li><li>Assists in maintaining parts and inventory system to ensure accountability and compliance with agency policies. </li><li>Ensures a systematic check for a continuous preventive maintenance program. </li><li>Supervises inmate workers and provides training in the proper diagnostics and repair procedures while ensuring the security of the maintenance facility. </li><li>Provides field repairs and on-call emergency 24-hour recovery services as needed. </li><li>Uses electronic diagnostic equipment to determine mechanical problems. </li></ul> <p>Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.</p> <p>Questions regarding the application process, this job posting or any other postings with the SCDC should be directed to:</p> <p>Recruiting and Employment Services</p> <p>(803) 896-1649</p> <p>Employment@doc.sc.gov</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:</p> <p>Work experience involving the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment.</p> <p>SCDC Minimum Requirements:</p> <p>(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).</p> <ul> <li>Five (5) years experience in repair and maintenance of diesel-powered vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and buses. </li><li>Must obtain a commercial driver's license within six (6) months of entry into the position. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>The South Carolina Department of Corrections is committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.</p> <p>Supplemental questions are considered part of your official application.
