<p>To assist the Supervisor of Special Services substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving and maintaining the best possible special education programs and special services.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure the provision of a free appropriate public education for all children with disabilities, ages 2 to 21, inclusive. </li><li>Assist the Supervisor of Special Education with the supervision and coordination of the procedures to identify, locate, evaluate, and place children with disabilities in appropriate special education programs. </li><li>Coordinate day treatment and residential program intakes and services. </li><li>Coordinate the online IEP program and assist teachers in the implementation of the program. </li><li>Work with multidisciplinary teams to address educational issues. </li><li>Serve as a special education liaison on various community and division-wide committees. </li><li>Assist the Supervisor of Special Education in the supervision of special services staff. </li><li>Provide guidance to teachers and school level administrators concerning discipline and classroom accommodations/modifications. </li><li>Read and check for federal and state law compliance of IEPs and eligibility reports. </li><li>Collate and analyze data for local, state and federal reports. </li><li>Collaborate with the transportation department to address special transportation needs of students with disabilities. </li><li>Other assigned duties by the Supervisor of Special Education </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the school/system policies and practices. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees the work and behavior of all personnel and students within postion's level.</p> <p>Special Requirements: Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities andcharacteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents.</p> <p>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Education and/or Experience: Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college of university with endorsement as an Elementary School Principal or Administration/Supervision K-12.</p> <p>Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of educational principles, practices and procedures;</p> <p>thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and administration; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; has ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.</p> <p>Special Requirements: Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents as attested to by the Division Superintendent of Schools. Candidate must possess good moral character.</p> <p>Language/Communications: Ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, laws, and regulations. Employee should have the ability to write reports, to compose correspondence, and to develop written policy and procedures. Also, the employee should have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from audiences, supervisors, and the school board.</p> <p>Physical Demands: Duties performed typically in school settings to include: school office,</p> <p>classrooms, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequently walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and /or weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students and or staff may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular contact with special needs children is necessary. Regular contact with staff members, students, parents, and community members is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.</p> <p>Work Environment: The work environment described here is representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
