<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Norwich Free Academy is currently accepting applications for a full-time Campus Safety Officer.</p> <p>Job Title: Campus Safety Officer</p> <p>Department: Campus Safety</p> <p>Reports To: Director of Campus Safety</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $25.05</p> <p>SUMMARY OF JOB:</p> <p>The main responsibility of the Campus Safety Officer is to:</p> <ul> <li>ensure that the Academy maintains a safe atmosphere for the students; </li><li>to maintain the security of the overall campus in an attempt to prevent theft, damage and violence; </li><li>assist in the enforcement of NFA's disciplinary structure. </li></ul> <p>SPECIFIC DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Investigate student disciplinary issues </li><li>Monitor buildings and provide a "proactive presence". </li><li>Assist visitors. </li><li>Patrol Academy areas grounds and buildings. </li><li>Observe and report unusual events to the Director or Assistant Director. </li><li>Intervene in combative, verbal/physical situations while exercising de-escalation and conflict resolution skills. </li><li>Interact with students, faculty, staff and administration. </li><li>Interact with police investigators. </li><li>Act as liaison between school and public at sporting and extra-curricular events. </li><li>Compile and submit written reports regarding investigations </li><li>Other duties determined to be appropriate in order to achieve the safety goals. </li></ul> <p>The position of Campus Safety Officer has some unique responsibilities. The presence of Campus Safety Officers is required for all school hours, many evening and weekend activities, and for the opening and closing of the campus. Campus Safety Officers are an integral factor in providing a safe environment on campus for the students, faculty, staff, and visiting public. Because of these responsibilities, Campus Safety Officers are sometimes assigned duties not required of some of the other staff employees. Examples of these can include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Coming in early when there is a delayed start of the school day, when required. </li><li>Remaining on campus on early release days, when required. </li><li>Covering evening and/or weekend activities on an overtime or event per diem compensation basis. </li><li>Changing work hours and/or days off in order to cover the night closing or Saturday duties. </li><li>Other duties as deemed necessary for providing a safe environment on campus. </li></ul> <p>The Director and Administrator for Campus Safety have always and will continue to assign such additional duties only when necessary and to distribute them as evenly as possible among the available staff. They will also continue their efforts to not place unnecessary hardships on the officers and to assign them with as much advance notice as possible.</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Associate's degree or 5 years' experience in a school setting.</p> <p>Previous high school or college coaching experience is desirable but not required.</p> <p>Excellent written, verbal and communication skills are required.</p> <p>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Bi-lingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole</p> <p>Driver's license</p> <p>Trained in conflict resolution</p> <p>Must be able and willing to obtain First Aid/CPR and self-defense training certification</p> <p>Must be willing and able to work flexible hours (weekends and nights)</p> <p>Must be capable of intervening in situations involving physically combative students</p> <p>The Norwich Free Academy is proud to serve the City of Norwich and the towns and communities in this area.
