<p>Duties</p> <p>JOB GOAL: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates school health services, including physical and dental examinations, immunization program, and tests for hearing and vision as required by state law. </li><li>Works with specialists for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care. </li><li>Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters. </li><li>Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. </li><li>Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. </li><li>May perform student home visits as needed. </li><li>Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health programs for all parties. </li><li>Contacts homes of children referred by principals. </li><li>Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. </li><li>Prepares and submits reports for the superintendent, county and the State Department of Public Health. </li><li>Authorizes exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases as required by state rules and regulations. </li><li>Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects. </li><li>Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools. </li><li>Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum. </li><li>Participates and provides in-service training programs for district personnel. </li><li>Keeps an inventory and dispenses all medication to students on a daily basis. </li><li>Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance. </li><li>Maintains a professional, positive attitude, and personal demeanor when dealing with the public as a member of the school staff. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Superintendent</p> <p>EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions and/or Board policies of the Evaluation Plan agreed upon in accordance with State rules and regulations as prescribed by the Illinois School Code.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid Professional Educator License with School Nurse Endorsement.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Preferably, two years of experience in public health nursing or in a school district.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated desire to help all children.</p> </li><li> <p>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.</p> </li></ol> <p>Salary/Benefits</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month school year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board according to HCTA Contract.
