<p>Job Description:</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>The Instructional Technologist plays a key role in leveraging technology to support effective teaching and learning, empowering both faculty and students to excel in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.</p> <p>The Instructional Technologist is a leader in Information Technology Services' (ITS) efforts to explore and test new academic technologies and to ensure that technology usage serves university goals for inclusive, accessible, and equitable learning experiences. The position provides technical support for Framingham State's portfolio of online services, assessment tools, classroom technology, and academic software. The Instructional Technologist deploys a blend of technical know-how and interpersonal skills essential to working in close partnership with faculty, staff, and students.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED:</p> <p>Director of Academic Technology and Instructional Design</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED:</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Proactively explores and researches the academic technology landscape, keeping the team abreast of new developments, opportunities, and innovative practices. </li><li>Manages a designated set of supported digital platforms, which might include the learning management system (LMS), video/multimedia tools, and/or other instructional technologies. Duties include managing access privileges and user authentication, configuration, application and data integration (e.g., accurate data exchange between designated applications and other University systems), and data collection and analysis (e.g., re: tool usage). </li><li>Locates, extracts, assembles, and transforms data from the LMS and designated systems into actionable knowledge, such as detailed reports for analysis, executive-level summaries, data visualizations (e.g., charts), and dashboard indicators. </li><li>Supports day-to-day operations of the Education Technology Office, including (but not limited to) phone, written, virtual, and in-person support, to faculty, staff and students requiring assistance with supported digital tools. </li><li>Designs, develops, and delivers high-quality workshops, videos and documentation for ITS-supported applications. </li><li>Participates in faculty and student orientations and provides one-on-one or classroom training on request. </li><li>Consults with faculty and staff to plan, design, and develop their instructional technology projects. Support can include providing feedback on scope and feasibility, researching solutions, developing or finding resources, and providing support for testing and implementing projects. </li><li>Provides guidance, documentation and support for the use of video, explicitly developing best practices around video production and management. </li><li>Serves as a contributing member of Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) at the University by responding to reported incidents, fulfilling requests, and contributing to the knowledgebase in accordance with Information Technology Services (ITS) standard operating procedures. Also serves as the assigned Process Manager or Service Owner for other designated items listed within the IT service catalog. </li><li>Manages assigned project-related work in accordance with ITS standard operating procedures. </li><li>Accountable for ensuring that equal opportunity, equity, and inclusion are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>All of the work associated with the duties and responsibilities for this position is ordinarily performed at Framingham State's main campus and may be done periodically from a remote location consistent with the conditional provisions specified within University's Telework Guidelines and in accordance with an approved Telework Agreement. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience. </li><li>Minimum two years of experience in a relevant technical customer support role </li><li>Familiarity and experience using LMS platform(s) (e.g., Canvas). </li><li>Excellent computer skills, including in-depth knowledge of Microsoft productivity tools, Adobe Creative Suite, video and other multimedia tools. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>Strong organizational, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to exercise mature judgment. </li><li>Dedication to service, including thorough and accurate support, punctuality, meticulous attention to detail, and reliable follow-through. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, students, external stakeholders, and vendors. </li><li>Availability to occasionally work flexible hours as required. </li><li>Ability to work within a team and also independently. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Degree or certification in instructional technology, instructional design, multimedia, information technology or related field. </li><li>Prior teaching experience. </li><li>Two or more years of experience with LMS administration and support (e.g., Canvas). </li><li>Proficiency with a wide range of academic technologies and their application to teaching and learning (e.g., classroom presentation media, courseware authoring systems, Web development tools, video streaming, graphic design, and video conferencing). </li><li>Familiarity with Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) software and generally accepted best practices (e.g., ITIL). </li><li>Skills with accessing and analyzing data analytics (e.g., familiarity with Canvas API, data visualization software, course level analytics). </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant.
