We strive to have all students succeed in all social and academic areas so they can become well-rounded individuals who show compassion toward others and who can confidently confront and solve any problem with which they are faced.</p> <p>Position: TESOL/Bilingual Teacher PK-12</p> <p>Location: District-Wide (anticipated for CLS)</p> <p>Broad Function: Supports and enhances student learning as the TESOL's Teacher, PK-12.</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Curriuclum and Building Principal(s)</p> <p>Qualifications and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>CT Teaching Certification - CT Bilingual (902/009) and CT TESOL - 111 </li><li>Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff) </li><li>Bachelor of the Arts or Bachelor of Science </li><li>Proof or demonstration of Spanish proficiency </li><li>Ability to work effectively with others </li><li>Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Use mainstream curriculum and native language (Spanish) as the vehicle to teach content and the English language. </li><li>Make instructional use of both Spanish and English during instruction </li><li>Enable students to achieve English proficiency and academic mastery of subject matter content and higher order skills, including critical thinking, to meet appropriate grade level expectations </li><li>Collaborate with EL and classroom teachers on a regular basis </li><li>Regularly monitor students to determine progress in language acquisition to provide input on placement and eventual exit from the program. </li><li>Assist in the administration and coordination of the annual assessment (LAS Links) of identified EL students as mandated by State and Federal statutes. </li><li>Communicate with parents/guardians of bilingual students regarding progress and changes to services using meetings, conferences and report cards. </li><li>Work with building administration and the EL department head to develop reasonable schedules for students. </li><li>Participates in department and building level meetings </li><li>Adheres to the guidelines of the SEA contract </li><li>Reports to building principal(s). </li><li>Performs additional duties as assigned. </li><li>Ensure safety of students </li><li>Sets and reinforces clear expectations and classroom routines </li><li>Manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment </li><li>Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom </li><li>Demonstrates strong content knowledge </li><li>Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program </li><li>Maintains accurate and complete records as well as appropriate documents and data on student progress </li><li>Assesses student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed </li><li>Designs instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed </li><li>Maintains a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner </li><li>Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior </li><li>Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials </li><li>Establishes and maintains professional relationships </li><li>Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement </li><li>Has knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices </li><li>Maintain respect at all times for confidential information </li></ul> <p>Compensation & Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Position is a member of the Seymour Education Association </li></ul>
