Official start date will be August 25, 2025.</p> <p>Schedule: Ten-month position; works 180 days when school is in session for students plus one additional day before school starts each year. Eight hours paid per day with a half hour unpaid for lunch.</p> <p>Salary/Benefits: In accordance with the support staff collective bargaining agreement.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Head of Security is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors at Joel Barlow High School. This position oversees campus security operations, develops emergency response procedures, coordinates with law enforcement, and ensures compliance with all safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive school security plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise, schedule and coordinate school related activities of security staff, school resource officer(s) and off-campus security needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor daily campus activity, including building access points, parking lots, and grounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate traffic control for on-campus events.</p> </li><li> <p>Respond to and investigate incidents, including altercations, theft, threats, or unauthorized persons on campus.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead emergency drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation, etc.) and ensure preparedness across campus.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments of school facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide security guidance and training for staff, including substitute teachers, and students.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage surveillance systems, radio communication systems, alarms, and other safety technology.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage and maintain all security related equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain incident reports and documentation in accordance with district and legal guidelines.</p> </li><li> <p>Update and maintain the emergency response kits and classroom emergency procedures.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>High school diploma or equivalent .</p> </li><li> <p>Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military (preferably in a leadership role).</p> </li><li> <p>Valid driver's license; security certification/licensure as required by state.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong knowledge of security protocols, emergency response, and threat assessment.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with FERPA and legal considerations related to school safety.</p> </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must be available during school hours and for after-school events as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Physical requirements include walking, standing for extended periods, and responding quickly in emergency situations.</p> </li><li> <p>May require evening, weekend, or on-call hours during emergencies or school functions.</p> </li></ul> <p>Applications will only be accepted online at the District Website: www.er9.org.</p> <p>A direct link to the application page is: http://www.applitrack.com/er9/onlineapp/</p> <p>Applications must include:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Formal letter of application</p> </li><li> <p>Resume</p> </li><li> <p>Three recent letters of recommendation</p> </li><li> <p>College transcripts if applicable</p> </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer: The Region 9 Public School District is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
