<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Special Education ParaeducatorApply Online</p> <p>Category: Support Staff/Special Education Paraprofessional</p> <p>Date Posted: 7/15/2025</p> <p>Location: Region One School District</p> <p>Date of Availability: 08/26/2025</p> <p>Date Closing: When Filled</p> <p>Description: Special Education ParaEducator</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain confidentiality of all records and documents. </li><li>Assist with implementing any student plan. </li><li>Work closely with students, teachers, nurse, and staff. </li><li>Maintain a safe and caring environment. </li><li>Maintain and keep current records and data; prepare and supply reports as needed. </li><li>Consult with and assist special ed. teacher in working with students, as needed. </li><li>Work with individual or small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher. </li><li>Supervise students in community-centered or optimal learning environments. </li><li>Before commencing employment, professional training will be provided as required. </li></ul> <p>Competencies and Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Prefer experience with students with challenging behaviors. </li><li>Sensitive to and aware of student needs. </li><li>Courteous verbal communication. </li><li>Team approach. </li><li>Computer skills: using software to monitor student performance; communicating with teachers via email. </li><li>Positive human relations and the ability to build rapport with children are essential. </li><li>Knowledgeable and understanding of child development. </li><li>Able to operate office machines such as copiers and computers, or willing to learn. </li><li>Required by the State of CT to be fingerprinted. </li><li>Minimum of a high school diploma; AA or BA degree preferred, and any State of CT requirements. </li></ul> <p>Physical Abilities and Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Vision: Can read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods. </li><li>Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions. </li><li>Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer. </li><li>Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist, and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head. </li><li>Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects that weigh as much as 25 pounds or more frequently. Paraprofessionals may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict. </li><li>Physical Demands: The ability to sit for long periods (at a desk and on the floor), kneel, bend at the waist, run, and walk. </li><li>Physical Stamina: The capacity to perform a range of support responsibilities, including, but not limited to, transferring and lifting, feeding, and cleaning for all areas of health, function, and hygiene with students who have significant needs in those areas. </li><li>Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions: This is a 10-month position (180 days), 6.5 hours per day (8:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.)</p> <p>Salary/Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Salary: Step 1 of the Local 1303-266 Agreement </li><li>Health / Dental Ins. offered </li><li>Paid holidays </li><li>See the Local 1303-266 Agreement for details. </li></ul> <p>Application/Interview Procedure:</p> <ul> <li>Apply online; click JobID: 1605 </li><li>Applicants will be screened on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged. </li><li>Interviews with a possible call back. </li></ul> <p>For more information, please contact the Pupil Services office at 860-824-5639</p>
